'Discovery' lacked discovery

Also... Undiscovered Country? Zero undiscovered countries

This has been rather amusing to me

It's a Shakespeare reference. You should check that guy out. He's dope.
It was thematically apt. Discovery (so far) isn't.

I know. lol. It's a line from the movie, but clearly not to be taken literally

The whole movie was about people being afraid of the future - of what may or not may happen. The line in the movie was about the future as an "undiscovered country". Something not to be afraid of, but a place to explore. (Also it's a wrong citation - in Hamlet "The undiscovered country" was a metaphore for "death" - but also with the intention of "exploring" it).
It's... very meta. But also a very fitting title.

I get the metaphor, & agree it's a great title for the very reason's you cite, but it is a metaphor, & I was just joking, like some others in this thread, about it not being a literal reflection of film it represents

Titles are often symbolic and ironic. When I was a kid, I had a Star Trek VI edition of the 1701-A model kit. The pylons snapped and my uncle helped make it a kitbash, where the engineering hull was carved to fit directly under the saucer. I named the ship the USS Discovery, with the intention that it was a ship that was a workhorse that was originally intended to be a science vessel, but mostly served patrol duty after the Khitomer Accords. I was a bit amused that the new show had a very similar theme and the exact same ship name, also derived from a previous Enterprise design.

But the ship did make lots of scientific discoveries, both before Burnham arrived, and during the rest of the season. Though we didn't see all the concurrent experiments, it did still break a Starfleet record of 300 concurrent experiments.
