What do you think the final day of the Trekbbs will be like?

Imagine if someone said today was the last day before the board was going to be shut down. What do you think would happen? I mean nobody would have time to really discuss anything. I am guessing you would have people saying goodbye everywhere all across the board. Tons and tons of trolling as well. Cussing like you have never seen.

I would myself would kind of like the "Babylon 5" ending for the board. T'Bonz and many of the older members travel to the place were the actually server is located. It's going to be destroyed because someone wants to make a hall way through the room and just keeping the server around will be a navigation hazard so it must be blown up. Everyone leaves and Christian wearing a workman's outfit pushes the button as it explodes almost as soon as everyone leaves the room. Then everyone heads off to their new lives. T'Bonz goes off on a Sunday Drive never to be seen again though everyone who was here swears she will return someday and start another Trekbbs from scratch.

A mix of people saying their goodbyes, saving threads, and flame-wars spreading like wildfire that the mods won't be able to stop.

Tearful sentimentality and the total burning of bridges at the same time. Spin-off BBSes will form. Or whatever the equivalent of a BBS is in that time. TrekBBS itself might not even be a BBS but will keep the name for the sake of recognition.

That was a different case than what would be the case with TrekBBS. There was a helluva lot of ill-will and fighting that got way out-of-hand- and the decision was taken to just end it.

I think when our time comes, we'd have a bit of notice, so we could wrap up things properly. And for those wondering, no, to my knowledge, it's not happening here soon so rest easy. I do check with the owner on our status occasionally and I just did so a week ago. Even if something happened to me (like if I dropped dead or had to drop out due to health), we have those trained to step right into my shoes so the BBS could continue. I made sure of that because I came into this gig cold and it was a helluva steep learning curve and I wished to spare any successor that.

That's ok then, the bbs isn't about to end if you drop dead. Everything's ok with the world.

I imagine the server will someday gain self awareness, it will assess its reason for existence, read our conversations and bitter disputes over canon, whether star ships are built on earth or not, and that weird thing where everything was a sombrero for a while. It will utter two words. ‘Screw this’ and then switch it’s attention to watching a ball game.

And we’ll all take refuge at Cafemom until we find a new home for ourselves.
