Joss Whedon exits the Batgirl film
Now, who do I have to bribe to get Greta Gerwig to direct?
Also, for Saoirse Ronan to play Batgirl.

You severely misspelled Yvonne Craig. The only real Batgirl is Alicia Silverstone.

Thing is the people behind the DC movies still think that they are making Watchmen. They approach things from the angle that only crazy people would become superheroes, and make the movies with the goal of showing us what it is that drove them to this madness.
Not to me. I found the lack of the “perfect ‘aw shucks’ middle-Americana” presentation of Superman and the Kents rather refreshing. Different strokes and all that...giving the side-eye to the very idea of Superman really undermined Man of Steel & Batman v. Superman.
Personally, I'm not very familiar with Batgirl in a solo context. I've only ever seen her as a supporting character in various Batman stories (the Adam West TV show, the 1990s cartoon, the abominable Joel Schumacher movie, The Lego Batman Movie). So, if you asked me what, apart from gender, would distinguish a Batgirl movie from a Batman movie, I'm not sure I'd have an answer for you. In that vein, I wouldn't be able to tell you why they should make a Nightwing movie either. I'm not disparaging the fans of either of those properties but I certainly understand the mindset of not knowing what to make of them.
And if we're looking for a female director to take over Batgirl, I nominate Rachel Talalay. She's done some stupendous work on some of the absolute best Doctor Who episodes of the last few seasons. She's also at least a little familiar with the DC universe, having directed episodes of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, & Supergirl. She's more than earned her penance for Tank Girl.![]()

It would seem that WB/DC won't be moving forward with Batgirl.
That looks... campy.
Why do they even announce a movie slate. Keep that stuff quiet until there's a trailer or at least cameras are rolling, then we'll be excited.
That is not at all what I expected, but based on what little I know of the character, it seems appropriate.First leaked on-set pic of the Captain Marvel suit:

It looks exactly like Captain Marvel/Shazam's costume should look. He's a kid's fantasy of what a superhero looks like.
Not right away, at least. They haven't cancelled it, just slowed down while they reconsider it.
There are things involved that a studio probably can't keep quiet for long, like casting, hiring, reserving release dates, location scouting, etc. Journals like Variety and the like keep a close eye on the film industry and would note new activity, so keeping things secret would just generate more questions and stupid rumors.
