2018 Releases

They are listed on the Canadian Amazon, which logically means they would be available in Canada. Though having just checked out the American Amazon, I see they're not listed there.

I mean "available in the US" in the sense of "is being legally/contractually distributed in the US." I can buy UK editions of books from the Book Depository no problem, but they're still very much UK editions from UK publishers, and they wouldn't be sold on Amazon US or in a US bookstore.

 

I just found out that DS9's 25th anniversary was last month, it's a shame we won't be able to get any books to celebrate it.

 

Technically 2017 was the 25th Anniversary (DS9 started filming in 1992 but broadcast in January 1993) so if you consider that we got The Long Mirage, Original Sin, Enigma Tales, Control and I, The Constable in 2017.

I wish Pocket Books would have the DS9 Companion published in hardback though or sell the copyright for it to Insight/Titan to republish it.

 

Usually with these kinds of things they use the premiere date as the anniversary, not the start of production.

 

Yeah, if we used the start of production than that would mean 1964 is when Star Trek started. The whole world recognizes the start of Star Trek as 1966.

Although it is a mistake that September 8 is considered Star Trek's anniversary. True, that's the date it premiered in the US, but in Canada it premiered on September 7.

 

To actually talk about a 2018 release, ign.com has posted the cover and blurb for the Spock autobiography (October 18th):

About the Author: David A. Goodman was born in New Rochelle, New York. I can understand the real-world reasons for calling him "Mr. Spock" in the title. But in-universe, that "career that spanned a century" thing suggests it was written in the 24th century sometime, so you'd think it would be titled The Autobiography of Ambassador Spock. Or maybe The Autobiography of Spock of Vulcan, since he seemed to go by that designation at times in lieu of a full name.

 

Or maybe he could reveal his unpronounceable other name at last...

 

So I wonder when this will have been written in universe? The description does mention a career that spanned a century, but it doesn't mention him going to Romulus, which I would think would be worth a mention.

 

Actually, it does mention it:

his diplomatic triumphs with the Klingons and Romulans

but since that line came before the mention of his death & resurrection on the Genesis Planet, it could be easy to miss as out-of-sequence.

Well, looks like my predictions were off, I was expecting this in 2019.

Not that I mind being wrong in this instance, of course.

Mr Goodman retconned STV (and thus Sybok) out of his version of the universe in the Kirk biog, I'm curious what Spock's pre-Starfleet life will be like (and if a recently added adopted sibling will be mentioned)

 

Probably depends on when he started writing.

I could also see him not mentioning anything from Discovery since the show is still ongoing.

 

Are there really still no releases for 2018? I'm starting to feel withdrawal with nothing since December.
