USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

To throw some more fuel on the fire, they also redesigned the Jupiter 2 for the upcoming Lost in Space Netflix series. Here it is. Why did they not just leave the original design?!?!?!?

Holy shit, when did this get revealed? I haven't seen any talk or news about it since the announcement it was going to series.

(Also, to keep it vaguely on-topic, it's really a mashup of the original and the '98 movie version, with its own styling. The central disk feels like an update of the series' version, while the ovoid body around it is evocative of the movie design. Very much like the tack the Discoprise took.)

I believe the vast majority of the viewing audience has no clue about CG details as we do. Why pander to them? All the ships seem to have too much detail for this era. If you really wanted the 1701 to stand out, leave it as it was. Maybe it can be changed by the time we get to 2264?

"Stand out?" I thought the point was to have it appear but still look like it made sense. You could make it stand out by having it appear as a big visual non sequitur easily enough, but that's a silly way to approach design.

Looks fine to me, if a little too much like a Star Wars YT-2000.

The Enterprise in TMP is mostly the same design as Jefferies' Phase II Enterprise and retains the configuration of the original. My understanding is that Taylor wanted to throw it all out.

It is not the TOS design or even close. They kept the same layout, but its not the same design. It did keep elements from the phase II design, but nothing at all that I saw from the TOs design,

Nothing screams Atomic Age 60s design more than the B-9. Heh.

You can hear the B-9 at least at the end of this teaser trailer....

This could be cool. I do wonder what the robot will look like.

I'm not sure what you mean by "layout" and "design" here. Can you elaborate?

Hmmm... OK. So, the TOS and TMP Enterprises had the same layout but different design too, right? (Particularly nacelle shapes.)
