the rear part is from the Soyuz Class.

Ah right, Mirandas have the nacelles underneath. I knew that.

It is close. It does share a base body style, but I do not feel its the same class. You could be seeing related designs from the same design team. Or based on a proven hull to lessen development time.

Looks a lot like the version created for the 2009 movie, which also had the registry ECS-1022

It was inspired by that, yes.

John Eaves also creates his own TMP version and posted it on Facebook. Though IIRC, he designed the ‘09 KM?

Sorry about that. Normally I would address this in a PM, but since it's mentioned here I better explain it here so there's no misunderstanding for you or anyone else, and so you don't feel like we were picking on you or anything.

What happened was that someone hit notify on one of your posts. Taken by itself it wasn't too bad and would have garnered a friendly at most rather than an infraction. But when I clicked on your profile, it showed that you shared an IP with another active poster, meaning you were a possible dual account. So I gave you a 24-hour temp ban in order to give the admins time to check out the situation and decide what to do. They checked it out and determined that the shared IP was probably something to do with your mobile provider and that it was legit and not a dual.

So now the infraction is completely erased from your profile and deleted, so you don't have to worry about that going on your "permanent record" or anything. Sorry you lost the 24 hours here, though. I hope there are no hard feelings. :)

Wow. Do we have things to discuss from the finale. No spoilers, but you'll know it when you see it. Probably worth starting a whole new thread if we're honest.

it's kind of being discussed in the thread dedicated to it.

If you were to remove the empty space between the 'rings' of the DSC saucer, how big would it be?

It has the same number of decks as Pike's saucer. But removing the gap would not make it much smaller in diameter: the inner edge of the outer ring would move inward a tad, but the outer edge would move inward less, to retain the total area.

The comparison shot from last night just nails down what has been designed into the DSC hero ship from the start: she's about the size of Pike's ship vertically, but both larger and more spread out horizontally. How much larger? Perhaps a third more deck acreage, in both hulls. Really, no surprises there.

So, here's the best size reference we've got...

And it’s not a good reference. There is no way to tell the size from that image. The enterprise could be closer to the camera. There is also the focal length

Best bet would be the windows

You'd have a slightly better chance looking at the shot in motion to help sort the perspective but, honestly, considering that there's still no law saying VFX artists will have their thumbs broken if they resize ships to make a shot's composition look better (I should start a petition), direct comparison of two ships in the same shot is probably the worst way to figure out scaling if there are any other options. Official design docs, exterior details like windows and hatches, tiny decals with numbers on them between the ones about tailpipes...

Presumably we'll get the official size the same way we did the Discovery and Shenzhou, from Eaglemoss or a similar source.

It's the same size as it was, or at least really close to it. I'll say 1200' at most as the nacelles might be a little longer.

Why does this need to be debated? Eaglemoss already told us the exact length of Discovery and the Shenzhou.

I think it moved on from the thread size topic like 20 pages back.

People said that about the 2009 version of the ship having the same window layouts as the classic movie ship. We finally got window close-ups in 2016

Yeah, but Ryan Church originally designed the JJprise to be 1200ft long vs 947ft of TOS. Not a big difference. They simply scaled the ship up by a factor of 2 because JJ thought it looked too small in scenes otherwise. The ship design was already very far along, so they did nothing about the windows or docking ports. Once the scale was established in the first film, they kinda had to stick with it through Beyond. The Kelvinverse Enterprise-A was also designed to match the previous huge JJprise length.
