List all the things that are not Star Trek.

It's not a drama although it's very dramatic.
It's not a soap opera he said she said convoluted mind twist that preaches to itself.
It's not a technobabble particle of the week show.
It's not a high tech procedural
It's not jingoistic

I was going to say, "It's not a rock! It's not a salamander!" but I can imagine where the latter of those might lead. ;)

Star Trek is not "Only the parts of the franchise that I enjoy or approve of."

Nor a health spa or apple store and brewery. Nor is it a place for odd looking people except if they're aliens.

That's pretty much it.

^ Even given the war, and monsters and destruction of entire worlds, nothing in Star Trek could ever match the death count in that little New England town.

SPOCK: Captain. They will not answer. The long-range sensor sweep of this system reveals no sign of life.
KIRK: That can't be. The last census reported a total inhabitation of more than four billion people.

JESSICA: Oh, but we still hold the record.
SETH: Ah--yep.

I agree the society wasn't perfect, but I think the general idea that modern social issues have been solved is accurate. And, I see no canon reason to doubt that the society is moneyless.
So how did Beverly buy the cloth at Farpoint Station? She specifically said to charge it to her account on the Enterprise.

Or at least, money is not needed for any services offered by the Federation, there is no official Federation currency, and some people choose to keep alien money for alien luxuries.
Federation credits. This is mentioned numerous times in TOS. By the time of The Voyage Home it's reasonable to assume that they don't use cash, but to say they don't use currency is ridiculous. People buy things, both legitimately and on the black market.

And for those who "choose to keep alien money"... how did they get the alien money in the first place?

I have to ask: If there's no money, no currency, no cash except for "alien luxuries"... why do Joe Sisko and Robert Picard continue to operate their restaurant and winery? It doesn't make sense unless they're making some kind of profit. They prefer to do without replicators, so it's not like they can just endlessly recycle everything.

But no reasonable evidence to doubt the issues considered solved are in fact solved.
Earth is not the entire Federation. Turkana IV didn't do so well, did it?

Hate me if you want but I don't feel that Discovery is Star Trek, more a fan fiction given a big budget.

A huge budget with which any sci fi show could thrive on. Izzics up the wazzoo.
