As a counter-point to the "What is real Star Trek" thread, list all the things that (you feel) are not a part of Star Trek.

    For example.

I feel that Star Trek was never a depiction of a utopian society, while it was generally prosperous, nice and comfortable, the society had it's share of problems.

And, the Federation isn't a moneyless communist state.

I believe it's utopan in the sense man is competely free from an inhumanity to its fellow man. No racism, sexism or homophobia among the human characters. There is on the other hand the spectre of xenophobia, not just among aliens directed towards us. But also recepricated by us towards them. Particularly if we're adversaries.

Largely alien races in Star Trek exist so we can hold up a mirror to ourselves, and make comment about human behaviour today. The humans we see should not be like that too. They're slightly more noble and idealised versions of us. They can be flawed by let's say arrogance or character traits, but they're not psychopaths or pedophiles etc.

I agree the society wasn't perfect, but I think the general idea that modern social issues have been solved is accurate. And, I see no canon reason to doubt that the society is moneyless. Or at least, money is not needed for any services offered by the Federation, there is no official Federation currency, and some people choose to keep alien money for alien luxuries.

    Things that aren't Trek?
    Pennies
    Barbells
    Trees
    Chihuahuas
    The color fuscia

Seriously though. Something Trek is not is any one fan's mental image of Trek.

Humanity in the TNG era hasn't evolved in the slightest, they're still the same dangerously savage child race as they were in the 20th century. It's all just propaganda which the wonderful utopian Federation has drilled into Picard and the rest of the Next Gen crew since they were children.

What happens on Risa stays on Risa.
Also, we still turn pages on e ink devices, call videos videos, despite the tech being different, or film a film on a digital camera in the same vein. Just because certain words are still in use for an activity, does not mean the activity is still even remotely the same. There is no board, no bulletins, and yet, here we are. Making posts...with no wooden upright in sight, and no letters...

OT but I now have visions of Shreddies locking away Corbyn after he plays drums on people’s stomachs.

Like I said, people are not prevented from keeping alien currencies.

Lots of people keep alien money, it’s just not required on core Federation worlds.

There’s evidence that human evolution is overstated but no evidence it’s a lie that issues like racism and poverty are solved on Earth.

Federation society is never presented as perfect or finished, there’s always the message that cultural evolution is an ongoing process. But no reasonable evidence to doubt the issues considered solved are in fact solved.

You're saying that Risa isn't a "core" Federation world. From it's mention in ENT it would seem to be close to Earth, and it's a Federation world.
So when Picard said that money didn't exist in the 24th century, he meant something completely different? I'm ok with that.

Some pretty blatant anti-Ferengi racism seen in the opening of "Caretaker", from fresh-faced Earthling cadet Harry Kim.

Data told Wesley (forget which episode) that Humans still engage in appearance and shape prejudices, and it was one of the last prejudices.

The racism from Chekov toward Klingons ( at the beginning of Trouble with Tribbles ) is overt. We see more such in TUC with Chekov's "guess who's coming to dinner."
