If you were an alien race how would you take over Earth?

Take over Fox News, make the viewers mistrust their families and friends...even their young children and dogs. Shootouts become more common, even in the executive board rooms. Society collapses.

Not really.

Without capitalism, the aliens would just take whatever shit they want any way.

Ask Native Americans.

Were they native before, after, or during the three waves of emigration from their original continent?

An exhaustive study of DNA taken from dozens of Native American groups that span from Canada to the tip of South America is helping to settle a question that has long divided scientists: When people arrived in the Americas more than 15,000 years ago, the Harvard-led research shows, they came in successive waves, not all at once.

The analysis published Wednesday reveals that while one population of “First Americans’’ crossed a land bridge from Siberia during the last Ice Age, giving rise to most Native Americans, there were at least two subsequent migrations. These people mixed with the founding group later, leaving traces of their genes in the DNA of present-day populations in Alaska, Greenland, and Canada.

...

Scientists not involved in the study said the findings, which involved the analysis of samples taken from nearly 750 present-day Native Americans and Siberians, deepens and enriches the story of migration into the Americas. Previous genetic analyses had indicated Native Americans descended from a single source population.

“The bottom line is there has been this debate: single versus multiple origins or migrations, and this comes down particularly on one side of that,’’ said Dennis O’Rourke, a professor of anthropology at the University of Utah who was not involved in the study. He said the finding was solid and the interpretation convincing, but that what is most fascinating is the way in which the new data is casting light on precisely how new streams of migrants mixed with existing ones.

So it appears they weren't here first, nor "native". Besides, how far back do we draw the line? 500 years, 1000, 2000, 15000, 50000, 5000000000? ∞?

Disable the humans' technology with EMP or similar technology, then attack the population with neutron bombs or fancy space-flu, something like that. Disable, then defeat. Intricate plot are for novel or movie villains!

Fools.

I'd land a bunch of ships disguised as meteors, and later advance my mantaray like attack ships in groups of 3 (after killing a Mexican stereotype who wants to sell enchiladas), shooting orange sparks and green photon torpedoes at anything that gets in my way.

And I'd wear a mask...you know...to keep the bacteria away.

Revisiting this topic, I would send an army in and have them all controlled by the mothership. My mothership would have a Windows OS for some odd reason. Then, if that mothership was destroyed, because it was hacked by Jeff Goldbloom, then my entire army would collapse.

Or

I would send all my soldiers naked into combat even though water is like acid to them.

Nothing could go wrong with either of those plans.

Just take over that planet with the sand worms and the Spice Melange while nobody's there yet and wait a few thousand years. You'll have control of the entire galaxy.

If I was an alien race and my planet was just fine I wouldn't waste the time trying to take over this place. Why? If I have the technology to zip across billions of miles then why do I want to waste my time dealing with Earth. If I need diamonds or whatever I can locate another planet with no life on it and just take what I need.

Especially if what you want is water. Heck, even if you needed water for fuel to get out of the Solar System, why wouldn't you just go to the Kuiper Belt, or some moon like Europa?
