Discovery Size Argument™ thread

If it looks like this then I'll be happy.

I suspect it won't be that faithful, but also not as far away from the original as the JJprise.

I am thinking that if a Constitution-class starship appears on DSC, it doesn't have to be - and probably shouldn't be - the Enterprise. It should be any of the other ships in that class.

I think the overall shape will stay the same but we saw a few changes in the Defiant outline we saw a few weeks ago, like the cut outs we could see on the saucer for instance.

My main concern with seeing any Constitution class is a simple one really, the design and look of the ship should really fit in with the ships we saw during the battle in the pilot as they all looked great.

I am expecting an Aztec motif on the hull just like the Europa but I am not a fan of those old toilet roll nacelles, to me they look cheap, low quality and a bit tacky to be honest, especially as all the other ships we have seen are using the newer more angular versions, even the Shenzou which is older than the Constitution class.

It wont be a deal breaker for me but will be rather jarring, the Discovery can be forgiven for being different as it is brand new and was built/modified for a very specific purpose.

Ultimately if the producers have updated the rest of Starfleet and the Klingons then the Constitution class should not be any different and should receive the same treatment including an increase to its size, otherwise it will just look silly when in the same shot with other Starfleet ships, even if it then ends up looking more like a larger 1701-A rather than the 1701.

The final episode of the season showing the last stand against the Klingons will be great if we get to see a Constitution class as well, as there has been a 9 month gap could we perhaps also finally see a proper D7 as a bonus. :techman:

I suppose Way too late to say:the newer ships should fit in to what feebshipsbwevsawin TOS,not the other way around.

Nice to see the saucer out the bridge window, looks very cool. Also, where is this window on the hull? My guess is the leading edge of the wing pylons, since the view out of it shows no other part of the ship.

It's near an airlock at least, you can see EVA gear in the room.
very good point. Didn’t even occur to me that that’s what those were, but makes sense. Only issue is, the only airlocks we see are up behind the bridge on the spine. Though I suppose those are docking ports and the one by the window could just be flush with the hull.

I wonder why they chose to place the scene in that random room we’d never seen before. It was clearly a redress of the armory/holodeck gun storage area, and also the corridor intersection hubs. Seems odd to me that it wasn’t in his quarters or something, and instead they invented a window that doesn’t seem to exist anywhere on the hull.

We did see it once before when they were sending the Tardigrade on it's way.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Just rewatched the tardigrade scene, and I'm not certain it's the same room, though it could be. Tyler's room has the big window that when you look out, you see no other part of the ship. If it's the same room, you'd definitely see the saucer since they send it out through a Millennium Falcon style top hatch (which I believe was also used on the Shenzhou) and it seems to exit from the dorsal spine kind of behind the bridge.

EDIT: By same room, I mean of course it's the same set, I'm referring to in-universe. Still makes me wonder why they chose to set the Tyler/Burnham scene in the random EVA room.

Fighters make a damned lot of sense in trek. Phasers, even low power can drain shields and even small topedos are ship killers. There really should be fighter carriers.

Most of the ships we see just aren't designed with combat as their primary function and so would not have much use for fighters. They would rather use the space for scientific equipment, labs, etc.

We will disagree here as most ships we see IMO are warships.
