Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Why is everyone so convinced a constitution is going to show up in Discovery?

They showed one in a very tactful way, possibly to avoid any controversy. The Defiant is now out of the picture. I predict we won't see any.

Because they keep making a big deal out of it and folks want to see one.

I've heard from someone familiar with production that we will see one in the season finale episode. I hope that is the case.

Totally bonkers thing I just realised. The scale of the USS Discovery is essentially the same as that of the Arial-class shuttlecarrier (the modified version of the Planet of the Titans Enterprise seen in various fan-published blueprint sets and manuals in the 80's)

The ultralong nacelles are basically the only difference.

Check this out. Discovery versus the USS Enterprise Heavy Cruiser Evolution Blueprints(1988)

I mean, did you see the size of the shuttle bay? It could totally work as a carrier

I always wondered why they didn't go in that direction to be honest, on some of the larger ships they could definitely fit a squadron of fighters.

Would be very useful especially if they are multi role, instead most ships of the later Trek periods just have a couple of shuttles, the racks of shuttles is one of the aspects of the new Kelvin Enterprise that I most approve of due to it being realistic and very useful in so many ways.

^That makes me think, if a Connie does show up on DISC the real selling point is going to be the skin textures.

I remember seeing TMP Enterprise fly-around for the first time, the close ups of her exterior skin, and when the travel pod with Kirk and Scott docked made my heart skip many a beat! That ship became more real to me than it ever had before.

I want to feel that again only with the original series ship. Here is one of the best images of her that illustrate how she needs to appear, imo.

Have there been many fan-made Terran!Defiant renders yet?

This image is off and they made it TOS texture, which made it even more off. They should have used DSC textures.

Fighters make a damned lot of sense in trek. Phasers, even low power can drain shields and even small topedos are ship killers. There really should be fighter carriers.

You are not gonna see TOS textures, or the TOS design.

I would expect the textures to be like the ships we saw at the battle and specifically the Europa's, a repeating Aztec motif.

It looked really good.

Yeah, I think the Europa was the newist of that bunch. It looked it and it was the Admirals ride.

I don't want TOS textures, I want better than that.

Shut up, Wesley! ;) I won't stop hoping until it is, if ever, unveiled.

The texture will be close to the examples we have seen so far, and hoping its gonna look like an out of place and dated 1960's design is a false hope man.

I promise it will not be the 1960s TOS design. It will look very much like it, and not stray too far, but it will be modernized and sleek. I don't think it's gonna be something out of left field. It will still very much recognizably be a Constitution Class.

This is what I have been exspecting.
