No, she did the Captain bit in pretend because (God knows why) she was a Captain in the MU. That's what I meant. Come on, what are the odds of some freaky goofy cadet doing that in the real universe? That was so contrived and stupid. I just groaned.

Not seeing the problem. They ran a scam. A variation on a well used plot from various tv show and films. Character X looks like someone else so they use it to con that person's associates.

I'm saying, they're writing her very Wesley Crusher-like. OF COURSE, she figures out the medical stuff in engineering. OF COURSE, she faces the M.U. as Captain Killy and can pull it off in spite of being a cadet.

Meh.

It's related to the Spores. Something she has intimate knowledge of as Stamet's right hand. She's not conducting brain surgery on a whim or whipping up a new intermix formula for the warp engines.
All she had to do as Captain Killy was be an asshole with a side order of psycho.

One reservation I have with the episode is that almost all the guest cast with lines were men. It could be evidence that they've relaxed their grip already and the old sexist casting issues have started bleeding back in almost immediately .

Hopefully it's just a blip. It's fine to have room full of men occasionally and it's fine to have a room full of women occasionally. I suppose history has taught me that the former happens a lot and the latter almost never so there is a degree of paranoia involved .
I’d say episode 13 rectified this pretty well, there were a lot of women in on the action, heck Tyler wasn’t even anywhere to be seen.

The cadet turned acting Captain in DS9 Valiant. Kirk going from suspended cadet to Captain in a day in ST09 then ordered back to cadet and then back to Captain again in a day in Into Darkness.

LOL.

And Valiant? Utterly unwatchable. I wanted them all, minus Jake, to be spaced in battle.

Even though she was a total pain in the ass like the rest of the cadets, I admittedly had a bit of crush on the XO, mini-Admiral Nechayev.

Oh, nothing wrong with crushes. Half my problem with the loss of Lorca and the ruination of his sly personality is that he's friggin' HOT. Saru just won't do it.

Did Red Squad lift their emblem from the Mirror Universe?
Yeah, it's very similar. And their behavior as well, it seems. Either they're fanatical teenage fascist robots who won't question insane orders or they're sabotaging planetary energy systems as part of a coup attempt on the Federation President or they're making reckless training maneuvers and blaming the one cadet who got killed for the whole thing. It's strange that Starfleet would not disband this group...

Faculty Advisor Lorca convinced the Commandant otherwise.
