Captain Marvel (2019)

First look at Brie in costume(s) (one of the costumes may be considered mildly spoilerish): https://twitter.com/i/moments/956611540433567744

Well that looks stupid and changed for absolutely no reason. I didn't know the writers/producers of The Flash were working on Captain Marvel :shifty:

If I didn't watch every MCU movie, that suit might be a deal breaker (especially since the actor playing carol just really doesn't fit, which has been a big mark against the movie). But, if I can suffer through Spider-Man Homecoming, I get can get through Captain Green. As long as I do what I did with Suicide Squad and treat it as a totally original movie with no connection to the comics (that attitude made Suicide Squad an enjoyable, if braindead, action movie, so maybe it will prevent me from dying of a rage induced aneurysm while watching Captain Wrong Color), and have the lowest possible expectations, Captain What the Fuck is Wrong with the Dumbass Director might end up being a movie I can at least sit through once.

I will be very surprised if she's not wearing her traditional colors by the end of the movie. Right now that looks like she's wearing Kree colors, which makes sense if the scene(s) she was filming there take place early in her tenure as Captain Marvel.

^Or at this point in the movie she's not "Captain Marvel" yet, just Captain Carol Danvers in an alien tech suit. Just like Tony Stark wasn't really "Iron Man" until he put on the red & gold and started blowing up tanks with tiny missiles. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they saved the blue, red & gold until the very end of the movie.

I mean come on, do people seriously think that Marvel have forgotten what one of their most recognised and *marketable* characters looks like?

Especially since that simple color correction to Red that someone showed looks absolutely perfect. Almost like the design of the suit is specifically intended to go in that direction.

I wonder why Marvel doesn't just release an official photo of Brie as Captain Marvel?

It would certainly be better than these on set spy photos. Studios put out official photos just to avoid these kind of situations.

Because promo photo shoots are typically done at the *end* of production. While the film is still being shot, a lot of things can still be in flux, plus everyone is a little too busy *making* the damn movie to be concerned with marketing it just yet.

They have however shown of some concept art and I think some test footage to the entertainment press a few months back. Not sure if any of that ever surfaced online though.

Also: as far as I'm aware, these are leaked shots taken without permission. Not something Marvel or Disney approved. Thus they can hardly be held responsible when fans "get confused" (though how exactly in this case is beyond me) by seeing production photos without any context.

Purely a coincidence, no doubt! ;)

I remember fans melting down about the homemade costume Peter Parker wore in the wrestling scene in Spider-Man or the goofy costume for the propaganda reels that Captain America wore in his first outing. Never ceases to amaze me that people will still assume that the first pics they see of a superhero outfit is going to be the only or final version that makes the screen.

I thought fans of superhero origin movies were smarter than this. Or, at least, experienced (unless this is their first movie, then this makes sense, every movie is potentially somebody's first)

Very surprised by people thinking this is the final version. Very.

WB released the first ever official photo of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in 7/26/2014 at San
Diego Comic-Con, which was right during the middle of the filming of BvS. So it does happen.

That's WB's business how they market their movies. Especially those with a bit of an uphill battle after a trio of disappointments and in need of some positive buzz.

Marvel is a very well oiled machine at this point. They only tend to release material when they feel it serves them best, as is their prerogative.

I don't get upset over these first costumes like this, they are almost never the actual superhero costume, and even when they are they still tend to be tweaked as the movie goes on. If we get to the very last shot of the movie, and it's still green then I might be very mildly annoyed.
Besides even if she does stay in a green suit, we already know she's going to be in Avengers 4, so there's always a chance something in that one could inspire her to go to her more traditional color scheme.
Even if she never does, a costume not being comics accurate is not enough to ruin a movie for me.
Characters also change costumes all the time in these movies anyways, I think all of the Avengers have had at least one new costume in each one of their appearances.

I am also disappointed that some fans aren't smarter, let's just wait untill the movie comes out.... or when I say it is bad ;)

Cripes man, have a little patience.

As much as I love the MCU in general, now that they've had a movie I consider terrible (Spider-Man: Homecoming) I have a lot less tolerance for stupid crap from them, because now there is no reasonable expectation of quality. Anything could happen now. Well, ok, the MCU probably can't produce a movie as bad as MoS or BvS, but it could still get bad. There is no reason for her to have that stupid green suit, and like I said I'm already not a fan of the casting of Carol Danvers so that's two things against the film. Add to that the rumored 1990s setting and I don't have any real hope for the movie. If its good, fine but I don't expect it to be. Its fighting the biggest uphill battle with me of any MCU film so far, and I'm a big fan of Carol Danvers in the comics (well, not counting her stuff with Civil War 1 and 2, those comic events made the character look like a complete asshole).
