Because they have that model and the one for the Discovery in the database.
I think I would have to disagree. I feel like an equivalent would be a Nimitz class carrier being sent back to WW1 and when WW2 rolls around we're still sailing in Fletcher class destroyers and Iowa class batleships.

Good grief! Georgiou is the evil dictator of one of the most evil regimes in the world of Star Trek. She literally had Burnham pick out a Kelpian to be murdered and then served her to Burnham to eat for dinner!!

But hey, that Lorca, he lied to me. So much worse. /sarc

It was Michael's only way out of an execution. Why is that difficult to understand?

While that's possible, I'd think Georgiou would've wanted to find Michael a father figure long before she turned 18..

Why? Perhaps that is not the norm in the MU. Or perhaps Georgiou didn't feel that Michael needed a father figure and even if she did think that, she might have thought that she was strong enough/good enough to be both.

Again - anything Georgiou said might be a lie in aid of getting Burnham to do what she wants.

Doesn't change that he had a relationship with Mirror Burnham.

So what? Consenting adults and all. We know nothing of the backstory of MU Burnham and very little about Lorca. Burnham might well have been up to his speed in the MU given that they all seem to be mean, manipulative fucks.

He may not have even MET her until she was grown up. All we have is Georgiou's pretty story, told to convince the innocent prime universe Burnham to see things her way/help her/turn her against Lorca.

It's perhaps "eww" in the regular universe (and other than him being a bad MU man it really isn't even ewww there) but in the MU, who knows? That's the fun of the place. The MU characters are *not* the same characters as the ones in the regular universe.

Something people seem to be overlooking.

Why did Burnham bring an object along on an undercover mission that would immediately identify her as not being who she claimed?
They asked the writer of the episode on After Trek, Burnham carries it around out of sentimentality. Nobody would be going through her pockets as long as she kept her cover, so no danger of being found out.

Dang. already 15 pages.
9 point something out of 10.

Liked what I saw of the Charon. She's a ring-ship with a burning fireball core.. where have I seen that before..

So.. guessing someone doing the fx liked Richmerk's design which was based on the Jefferies design for Starship which may or may not have been an early design for TOS Enterprise and which eventually wound up on the wall in TMP and the 601 club. Charon is as close to the XCV-330 as we are probably ever gonna see :D

I thought it was a pretty decent episode. I see people knocking the short runtime but was it missing anything or rushed? I kind of like that they can tell a story in an episode and run short or long depending on the needs of the episode rather than to fit some absolute time box.

I can see how it's annoying if watching on commercial TV (Canadians?) but I think most are streaming. I may be spoiled because I abuse the hell out of my 30-second skip button on my DVR when watching TV so I don't really notice whether ads are heavy or not most of the time.

I agree. This episode was well-paced without really any filler, and I think it worked.

Holy shit! Lots going on tonight that I kind of really loved. So Captain Lorca is actually Mirror Lorca, which immediately begs the question: Is there a Prime Universe counterpart? I have a sneaking suspicion that there is, just because it's Star Trek after all.

I see Stamets and Mirror Stamets are equally weird, no matter what universe they're from lol. Also a really great, powerful scene between L'Rell and Voq/Tyler at the end there.

However, Culber/Stamets gave me all the feels, so beautifully, heartbreakingingly sad. Well-done by Rapp and Cruz.

About the runtime: I honestly didn't notice. It didn't feel shorter, but that's what happens when you're engrossed I guess.

Can't wait for next week!!

There's still the possibility of another Lorca out there.

He is out there. Whenever MU Lorca came to the prime universe, the prime lorca went somewhere else (MU I guess). So we will see this character for the full series run I am sure. They will find prime Lorca at some point.

Also, the MU Discovery is in the prime universe, they noted that in the first episode. They haven't explored that story yet.

I see several posts mentioning that Lorca may not be back in S2. Why is that? If he does something to vindicate himself why wouldn't he stick around? Also right now only Burnham knows he is MU. Maybe she will keep quiet so as to save him, after all her actions cost her last captain to loose her life.

Why are so many posts not thinking that there is a prime universe Lorca out there some where. When MU lorca came over they would have switched, right? I don't think this is the end to this actor being in the show at all.

Was it Mirror Saru they had for dinner? Or do all Kelpians look alike?

I think so. She was asked to pick and she had no idea why so she picked the one she knew. Although he seemed a little short so maybe it wasnt him. Either way, this series is taking serious risks. Eating a sentient being with language and space travel right before our eyes is cutting edge story telling for Trek.

Because the most likely scenario is that the two Burans were switched as they both were being attacked/destroyed. Prime Lorca most likely went down with his ship in the MU vs MU Lorca bailing at the last minute in the PU.

It's in the MU rebel datacore that the Emperor destroyed the Buran in retaliation for Lorca killing Burnham.

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled if Prime Lorca did survive and we manage to get him back before they jump back to PU somehow, but I doubt it will happen.

Just an observation that is kind of bugging me about the mirror universe's "star fleet"...
If they've had a Constitution class starship around to reverse engineer since 100 years ago in this timeline, shouldn't everything be significantly more advanced than has been depicted so far? Granted the Imperial flagship is unlike anything we've seen before, but why is the mirror Shenzhou roughly the same ship as the one seen in the home universe?
Nope - The Defiant tech is why the Emperor's Palace ship is the way it is (IE super advanced compared to the rest of the Fleet). Why? The Emperors kept the BEST for themselves alone - and like Emperor Georgu KILLING her entire group of Advisers (save one she knew could/would keep the secret about Parallel Universes), for example - they kept the truly advanced technology secret by killing the Engineers involved in creating/reverse engineering it as soon as they had the specs.

He is out there. Whenever MU Lorca came to the prime universe, the prime lorca went somewhere else (MU I guess). So we will see this character for the full series run I am sure. They will find prime Lorca at some point.

Not necessarily - Like PU Georgu; PU Lorca could be dead (killed with his crew in the U.S.S. Buran incident.) There isn't always a 1:1 correspondence of events.

IIRC they’ve mentioned his past. Before the series, he was the only survivor of a battle and killed the rest of his crew as an act of mercy. I figured MU Lorca killed Prime Lorca there and took over his identity. That Admiral seemed to knew him before and commented on him acting different.
