New Andorians

A Tellarite officer killed by Klingons is mentioned on DS9 but we never see one in any of the 24th century series or films. Chronologically the Tellarites all but completely vanish from Trek after TVH.

And I think the only time we see an actual Andorian in any of the later shows is in the BG of "Captain's Holiday" (plus a hologram in "The Offspring")

Now I'm going to have a whole Guinan-like backstory in my head for that Andorian. One of the few survivors of a mysteriously decimated race, now roaming the galaxy alone...

Andorians are mentioned a couple times, a holographic one is seen in TNG, and there is an admiral in the background of one of the TOS movies.

There's no point in changing something if you are going to make it worse. Either make it better or do nothing.

So which of the previous designs was perfect and shouldn't have been changed?

Actually I was making a more general statement about the compulsion to make changes by creative types, regardless of the success or failure of the Andorian example. I don't have a problem with the Discovery Andorians, although it's really more of a lateral move than an improvement over the Enterprise version.

Trek fans have been redesigning the races to be more Alien for like 40+ years. Its not just creative types. But in this case you have creative types that are also massive trek fanbois, so you are gonna see changes.

Why have they never touched the Vulcans?

The Andorians on ENT are the best-looking in the entire franchise. They struck the right balance of makeup and prosthetics which allowed them to both look alien and still permit the actors to emote and remain somewhat human in their facial expressions. Jeffrey Combs rules Trek makeup like few other actors in the history of the franchise and he could make the DSC makeup work, but I'd hate that the creators would electronically modulate his voice so he no longer sounds like Jeffrey Combs but a robotic facsimile instead.

Still, I really like the new Andorian makeup. I'd ditch the new vocal sound because it just doesn't work for me, but other than that they did a good job taking the ENT look and giving it a slight tweak for a new series.

Except for Nero and his crew, who come from the post-TNG era and the year 2387. They all have smooth foreheads like TOS Romulans, Caithlin Dar and Nanclus. I know they're from the JJ films but they're still Prime timeline Romulans from the late 24th century so at least some of them still have smooth foreheads in that era.

I do think their brows were altered a bit
