For the ending credits, yes. The main titles in the revival don't have time to bring in the middle eight, much less for the rest of it to get repetitive. (The main titles were all of 40 seconds long for 2005-2010 - were Moffat's significantly longer?)

I feel like that was Gold himself, not Moffat. Gold's the one who pushed for each Doctor to have their own theme. Without him, we wouldn't have gotten "(The Majestic Tale of) An Idiot With a Box", but instead just a reprise of "I Am the Doctor". And he's not the one who thought that "The Day of the Doctor" needed a bunch of tracked music from older episodes.

I'm pretty sure the UNIT theme got reused too (although I don't remember whether that was composed or just tracked). Besides that & the Cybermen theme, what else is there that could have been brought forward? The Daleks never really had any recurring themes that I recall... (Ignoring "Day of the Doctor" for obvious reasons.)

The 11th Doctor is my Doctor, and Gold shined with his series of adventures. The tunes represented how much fun Matt Smith's adventures were, and how awesome Amy Pond was. Gold was working on all cylinders in series 5; making Doctor Who fresh and leaning towards stuff for a younger crowd.

The UNIT theme from the RTD era was never used in the Moffat era, though it was used in the SJA two-parter Matt Smith appeared in.
I always liked the idea of keeping the "Flavia theme" as a sort of incarnation neutral theme for the Doctor. Especially now that it was brought back in Capaldi's run and even used in Whitaker's post regeneration scene, making Smith the only modern day Doctor that theme was never used for. As for the Daleks, although the piece known as "The Dark and Endless Dalek Night" used in Day of the Doctor was originally composed for Journey's End in season 4, Dalek music in the RTD era often had a choral sound to it, going as far back as the episode Dalek. A new bombastic theme was used for them in Victory of the Daleks, though it seems to have gone the way of the New Paradigm.

Frankly, I preferred Gold's approach for the Moffat era, especially with Capaldi - subtle, not drowning out the dialogue, entire scenes without any music, but not droning "sonic wallpaper".

@Emh is probably happy that the new TARDIS console room isn’t decorated wth it. :D

    I don't mind...as long as it doesn't magically solve and/or weaponize everything. :p

Yeah..the theme really misses something when it´s left out. And I really don´t get where this thing about "sounds like "Do they now its christmas.." is coming form. It´s not even remotely similar to me..the starting tone might be the same (I´m not sure..I don´t have perfect pitch ears)..but thats all.

I had to look up that song, not being very familiar with it. Turns out it was written in 1984, a full 21 years after the Doctor Who theme, which makes the comparison rather backward.

Good. Gold did his service, and he did it well, but it is long past time for some new blood.

He will be known as NuWho's Dudley Simpson. He gave the show a consistent sound through 4 different Doctors, and great pieces of music while at that...

... though, personally, his work peaked in Tennant's last series and maybe Smith's first.

IMO, season 3 was the best, musically speaking. The Doctor Forever, This is Gallifrey, Boe, The Dream of a Normal Death, All the Strange, Strange Creatures. Those were damn fine tunes.

I'm thinking of Vale Dacem, really. For me, that's the apex of musical grandiose opus, and its amazing, and absolutely nothing that OldWho would ever consider doing.

I will certainly miss him! Just watch an episode like 'Utopia' and you can see how much his music made that episode great. I think he did peak about season 5 and 6, he had some notable music after that but not nearly as much. I hope the new composer is not going to just put out sonic wallpaper.

Yes, Vale Decem is a great tune, though really, though given how melodramatic Tennant's regeneration was getting with just the meet-ups with various former companions, having a choir start up as the music for the regeneration scene was getting really OTT.

Sure, but it is a great sounding theme. And I've learned to live with Ten's regeneration, to the point that it doesn't bother me anymore.

Of course, I also listened to the tune practically every day for the first few months of 2010. Basically right up until season 5 started. I might be a bit burnt out on it.

Though I suppose one could argue I wouldn't have done that had it not been a great tune. Sometimes being a fan is complicated business.
