Ever notice that Robert Picardo change his voice inflection

The voice shift I most recall was Troi-in season 1(maybe season 2) her accent sounded way more "foreign" and "exotic" than the way Sirtis actually talks. By season 4 or 5 her voice was basically the same as Sirtis voice at convention.

In universe, it could be explained that Troi liked imitating the voice of Mr. Hommn’s predecessor. We have that Season 1 line about the Troi’s butler trying to change Deanna’s accent (that neither of her parents spoke with!)

But for Picardo I think he lowered his voice on purpose. If you watch his “Homr Improvrment” appearances, he has the higher voice.

It was pretty low in The Howling as well, but then again he played a serial killer/rapist in that one... and a werewolf, lol.
When I rewatch VOY later this year or next I want to pay attention to this because it's something I didn't notice the first time around.

I'd guess the change in the character as he developed had something to do with it. The Doctor started off very humorless and robotic, then developed more of a personality over the years and began to experience a wider range of emotions.

Janeway and Chakotay's voices changed as well, but with far less of an explanation. Janeway sounded vaguely like a chipmunk in many early episodes, while Chakotay had his "Magical Indian" stereotype voice in early seasons. Later on, they both dropped those acts and just spoke like regular people.

Actually, even Seven's voice is a bit odd in her first one or two episodes. It's strangely high pitched and girlish in "Revulsion," when she's having the "copulation" conversation with Harry. I'm VERY glad that stopped.

Remember when they tried to have Marina Sirtis create a fake accent because she was playing a half alien character?

That didn't make sense either. It sounded weird and was dropped by the end of season one.

It was a good one. She sounds a bit like deaf actresses do, which, if you think about Betazed, makes perfect sense. Majel didn’t bother matching it, so Sirtis had to go a bit more transatlantic with it, then went more her natural voice in the films.

if you watch the early episodes of DS9 Odo's voice is different and Rom's voice in his earlier appearances as well.It's part of the creative process trying to match the voices with the characters' development. It's kind of jarring so I wish they'd work it out before filming.
