Spoilers Visual continuity - Does Discovery strictly need to show past designs... at all?

That doesn't work with the later productions though.

The Refit was probably made more detailed because of the higher budget and the fact it was going to be on the big screen.

The 11 footer looks so amazing even 50+ years later.

I know it may not be CGI-friendly, but I find less detail makes it seem more advanced. Like something a technologically advance civilization would be able to pull off.
Even though I really dislike the Kelvinverse version of Constitution class, one thing I really think they got right was the look of the ship's surface. It looks mostly smooth and clear, yet still really good even on big screen. Way better than the hull surface on DIS ships, they're covered in really harsh unnecessary panelling. Europa in particular looked really rough.

And the hull paneling is different colors too. Discovery is brownish bronze and the other ships in the fleet are dark charcoal grey. There is no uniformity. It doesn't look like a uniform fleet to me. It looks more like a mishmash.

This is the colour of the Enterprise to me:

I find it ironic that some are criticizing the clean and sleek design of the original Enterprise as being "primitive" and "too sixties," while heaping praise upon the TMP refit, which drew upon even earlier design influences by incorporating 1920s/30s Art Deco detailing.

Honestly I blame Star Wars for that. It raised the expectation for sci-fi/sci-fan audiences to require over-greebled ship designs and general tech, lest the young appear "boring". Threw the notion of simplicity as a hallmark of advanced technology right out the window forevermore.

..but whose to say this is the MU we know or that the prime universe in the show is just the prime universe for the purposes of the show?

AGAIN? For the last time: this is THE Mirror Universe! Why else include it if not? Why go out of the way to show it's the Terran Empire if it's not the same Mirror Universe?

People need to get over this idea that it's something other than what it claims to be.
