    No crossovers with Riverdale then?

Darn -- I figured we were heading for a point where The CW was the "nothing but Berlanti-produced comics-based shows" network. ;) And after Supergirl, Riverdale, and possibly others were picked up by The CW after being developed for (or originally aired on) other networks, I'm a bit surprised to see it go the other way.

Well, they managed a Supergirl/Flash crossover while they were on different networks. And the article says that part of the reason for this move is that Riverdale is actually watched by more people on Netflix than on The CW, so many viewers assume it's a Netflix show anyway. So I doubt we'll get a "Crisis on Earth-Archie" crossover event, but there could be some cross-pollination.

The ironic thing is that I felt the crossover was done better during the first season, when they were able to make it stand on its own. When it changed networks, it seemed they had less of an incentive to show Flash on Supergirl, and merely using both shows as a storyline bridge. As someone who recently watched the second season on Netflix, with The Flash not being available there yet, I was disappointed that I couldn't see those storylines fully.

Is it just me or does she look like Emma Watson?

A familiar name to me, though not a familiar face. She was the voice of Jinora in The Legend of Korra. Which means she has experience playing someone with supernatural powers.

I'm a bit disappointed -- the casting call for Sabrina was supposedly open to all ethnicities. It would've been interesting if they'd chosen a nonwhite actress for the role. Anything to infuriate the alt-right fanboys.

I tried reading the comics for this. Definitely not a horror fan but since it’s being made into a show I guess I’ll give it a try for the hell of it.

Kinda similar, though not quite as stunning. Mainly I'm struck by how young-looking she is. She's 18, but she looks younger. She certainly makes a more convincing teenager than any of the Riverdale stars.

She is a very good actor. She played "Sally Draper", Don Draper's daughter, in Mad Men and was one of fans' favorite things about the show. The show runner just loved her performances for which she always got great reviews. It'll be interesting to see how much further she's progressed as an actor.

Even though I love the Melissa Joan Hart show, I never read the comics so I didn't really care one way or the other about show or whether it was more loyal to its source material, but this casting has my attention. After Elizabeth Moss, Kiernan Shipka was my second favorite thing about Mad Men (which was largely an obnoxious and toxic misogynistic show) and I looked forward to seeing what her next big project would be. I'll definitely have to give this show a chance now.

I wouldn't expect this show to be remotely like the sitcom, or indeed much like the classic Sabrina comics. It'll be more in the vein of the recent Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics that reinterpret it as outright horror. Which is why it surprises me they've cast someone so cute and pixieish in the lead. She doesn't look like someone with a dark side.

I haven't seen it, but I had the impression it was a critique of the misogyny of the depicted period, rather than an endorsement of it.

Yeah, I knew this show would be vastly different from the Hart show, which I don't mind. I just didn't have much inclination to watch either way until this casting. And considering her performance as Sally, I certainly see her fulfilling the needs of Sabrina in such a manner.

It is a critique, but often it was hard to handle the show when just about every male character was a flaming sexist asshole all the time. The only reason I stuck with the show the whole time was because of most of the female characters, led by Moss and Shipka (as well as Christina Hendricks and Cara Buono).

^Sure, they're both broadly similar physical types, but that was never what I was talking about. Two people can be of the same physical type yet still have faces that convey extremely different impressions of their personalities. That comics cover Sabrina doesn't look innocent and pixieish, she looks solemn and intense. She reminds me more of Riverdale's Lili Reinhart (Betty).

I really don't know why you keep calling Kiernan Shipka "innocent and pixieish" in appearance when you, by your own admission, haven't seen any of her actual performances.

As I've already pointed out, I have heard several seasons' worth of Kiernan Shipka's performances, as Jinora on The Legend of Korra. So I know what she's capable of as an actress. I was merely talking about the first impression her facial features convey, which obviously has nothing whatsoever to do with her ability as an actress. I wasn't judging, just making an idle observation.

I read your post and then clicked on the link and my instant reaction was... "Oh my!"

Didn't think you'd be spot on but she does look like her in that pic.

Someone on Facebook said Shipka looked like the result if Emma Watson and Emma Roberts (whoever that is) somehow had a baby.

Then someone replied they were imagining Emma Watson and Emma Roberts trying to conceive a baby....
