A few years back I developed an idea that the Alpha Centauri would be the Federation's "Red Fleet" in a similar way as the Andorians in FASA are the Federation's "Blue Fleet".
The native Alpha Centauri starfleet ships would be a no nonsense, cruder-looking vessels, that would have harder lines than the typical ships of the fleet. They had two distinct attributes to their designs: Firstly, a warmer, almost redder hue to their hulls. As this was due to the alloys and composites of their world. And second, a curious arrangement of their warp nacelles in what has been lovingly called, "engine blocks". Though powerful, this nacelle arrangement was not considered to be "safe" by most starfleet standards, but this has not stopped the Alphans from pushing onward with their designs.

I personally have been inspired by Soviet design ethos, with their military's look and feel for these ships, and I had drawn out many sketches that had led to this final piece. I am posting the sketches and images that had led to my older Lun-Class (which was modelled for SFC, with the help of my great friend Tus).

    Enjoy this trip mates.

Me like! :techman: I like the old style soviet sea going ships, they also have this function over style look and they weren't made beautiul but just a floating piece of (rusty) metal designed to house engines and weapon systems. :D
I quite like the Orlyonok-Class and the Lun class. :mallory: I hope your friend is willing to 3D the Orlyonok for you, a bit of extra wear and tear, some crudely welded on armor plates, perfect! :mallory:

Thanks mate! I actually modelled the Lun and textured her, Tus cleaned the mesh up and hooked me up with enhancing the textures...its always a great collab with him :) Tus is in the military, so the infamous free time is not something he has a lot of, but he does help out when he can.

Aye and another awesome mate of mine, the Wicked Zombie, hooked me up with his most excellent renders. The Lun was a real collaboration :)

They're so unorthodox... I love those ships. That frontpiece you used there instead of the usual Deflector Dish looks like the grille of a 1937 Ford Coupe. It kinda makes them dieselpunk-ish. Fantastic work. :)

thanks mate! I found doing this project to be very liberating in that I could design another Federation race's vessels and add another layer to a rather homogenous fleet style.

    Thanks bro!

    Beautius Maximus, as usual! :)

I love things like this, showing how Starfleet designs don't need to adhere strictly to the pearlescent white/duck-egg blue palette, but can branch out into warmer colors. The Discovery, using a more Vulcan-like bronze palette is another perfect example.
