Billed as the Reliant's command chair in Diamond Select's latest Star Trek Select Khan offering...We all know this chair was originally used in TMP as Kirk's command chair. I prefer it alongside my TMP Kirk figure. Now if only QMx would offer it life size. Anyone else wanna see it manufactured?[IMG][/IMG]

Yes I've always loved TMP -TVH chair and have never understood why no one has made a replica of it. Out of the chairs we've seen over the years it looks like the easy onw to make with it's flat back and bottom I've even though about trying to make one myself in the past.

Ah, my favorite Captain's chair in all of Star trek...I'm actually debating on getting one of the Khan select figures, just so I can do what the OP did and put my TMP Kirk figure next to it.

Nice! I was disappointed that they didn't make more TMP figures but now if they make it in 1/6 scale I can just buy pyjamas for the QMX figures.

It looks as if made to cushion every vertebrae--every bone. It matches our skeletal frame

In some ways TMP is still more futuristic than any other Trek offering before or since.

My favorite chairs. I wish they hadn't covered them for TWOK and TSFS, though I'm glad they left them uncovered for the Reliant.

    Working on another replica:

The more I've thought about it, the more I want to put a practical, life-size TMP command chair replica for my office chair on my ever-growing to-do list. The more I think about it, the easier it seems it would be.

How difficult is it to dye Lycra?

I'd love a 1:6 scale replica for the QMX figures. I want to go full TMP with them if possible Perscan belts and all.

Yup, my mind is made up, but I hope y'all don't hang me for using suede (or faux-suede) for my desk chair (click for full size):

I'll be printing these soon, along with my TOS chairs, in LOTS of various scales. :)

I assume I should also print a frame version to allow for padding and fabric for a 1:6-scale version.

Sweeeeeet! Hang on though... How many of these do I need for a bridge? :-? Hmm at 1:6 scale are we saying they need to be upholstered? Any clue on how to go about that?

    Thanks!

I'll probably do a fully-cast version and an upholsterable version. :)

Um...are you making a six-foot diameter bridge?!? :ack:

Let's just say I have not completely ruled out the idea....

More likely I will try to squeeze key stations into a smaller space but even so that's still Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Ilia, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov. I suppose Decker, McCoy, Rand, and Chapel will have to stand!

How are you doing the walls and consoles (well, everything...)?

Hey, it's a reimagining in progress. I anticipate that I will first have to arrange custom casts of Chapel, Ilia, and Decker, (Rand is being printed this week!) then custom uniforms. After that, I will probably start with the chairs against a cardboard backdrop and eventually find some lunatic who wants to print these things. I think the bare minimum you need is helm, Captain's chair and steps leading to Spock's console. The promo pics showed you can squeeze everyone in there if you really have to!

Just a note for anyone unawares, the upholstery on the furniture in TMP was mostly a girdle fabric called Powernet.

Yup, I had read the exact brand in the last few days, but I had heard for many years that it was "girdle material", and many people interpreted that as Lycra.

The ONLY reason my latest render looks the way it does is that I had just begun playing with the V-Ray renderer while my previous render was with Iray+. I was not able to locate a good Lycra or Spandex texture before coming up with this render. I wasn't even going for suede, but that's what it appears to be, to me. I like it so much that I believe I'll be using it for my personal desk chair replica. :)

The TMP captain's chair was sleek and stylish. One of the features that I liked about the chair was that the arm rests could be folded to become a starship version of a seat belt.

I believe I'll still be using faux-suede for mine, as well as adding lumbar support and a tilting mechanism. I'll also need to get creative with the floor attachment (wheels).
