Forget TNG and DS9. This is the 23rd century.

Kor

PHLOX: At least he was spared the final stage of this disease. May I ask how he was infected?
K'VAGH:
Command chose his unit for the Augment experiment when we had exhausted our supply of prisoners, after they all killed themselves.

Worf got taken prisoner by the dominion as did Martok, and both were like as long there are still enemies to fight and a chance of escape it's cool to remain a prisoner.

L'rell clearly has other motivations and allowed herself to be taken prisoner to achieve her goals.

ENT "Broken Bow"
ARCHER: Let me get this straight. You're going to disconnect this man from life support even though he could live. Now where's the logic in that?
SOVAL: Klaang's culture finds honour in death. If they saw him like this he'd be disgraced.
TOS: They're a warrior race. They dream of dying in battle. If you understood the complexities of interstellar diplomacy

Maybe she's just not honorable.

Try not to cry.
But...but...Gene's Vision!!!

I think the new series is fantastic. I’ve been watching Star Trek since a kid & I can appreciate the creative evolution of how Discovery fits in. I’m assuming the ‘standard’ beam phasers will make some form of intro with the much anticipated Constitution-class cruisers.

The way the series incorporates old skool & next-gen sound effects for launching torpedoes & ambient bridge sounds is pretty cool.

These aren't klingons but are examples of when someone surrenders against the will of a culture
DS9 "Captive Pursuit"
HUNTER: What a disappointment. And after such an entertaining beginning
SISKO: Entertaining?
HUNTER: These aliens gave us a great deal of resistance. We wondered how you got their cooperation without violating your oath of silence.
TOSK: I told them nothing.
HUNTER: But to see you here, caged, helpless. How could you allow this? It is a disgrace to all Tosk. And the most disappointing hunt in memory.
SISKO: You're saying that this whole thing is a hunt and Tosk is the prey?
HUNTER: You were right. This Tosk is unworthy of such a noble description. For this dishonour, you'll endure the greatest humiliation Tosk can know. To be captured and brought home alive. You will live out your existence on public display where children can make fun of you, toss you scraps of food which is more than you deserve. Release him.

DS9 "The Magnificent Ferengi"
LECK: You don't seem to be too happy at the prospect of being rejoining your people.
KEEVAN: Believe me when I tell you I have nothing to be happy about. Vorta are supposed to commit suicide when they're captured. I failed to follow that rather harsh policy.
ROM: They're going to execute you?
KEEVAN: After what is surely going to be a most unpleasant debriefing.

Maybe she'll be discommendated and then join the cast of Discovery. Hopefully she won't join starfleet though since that would muddy the "first Klingon in starfleet" thing that Worf has.

Who cares? Its TV. All I want is for it to be interesting, whatever the story it is they are trying to tell.

Man, you don't know much about Worf and the Klingons if you think this. Throughout TNG and especially DS9 it becomes clear that Worf being detached from the Empire means he is as pure a Klingon warrior who follows its traditions as anyone, he has an idealised view since he lives amongst humans and away from the corruption, there are a ton of reasons why he is such a "good" Klingon.

By the way, Worf got captured in DS9 and was taken to Cardassia for a public execution. General Martok and several other Klingons were held by the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant.

Except I have also quoted plenty of Klingons besides Worf that said the same thing. Episode "A Matter of Honour" was dedicated to learning more about the Klingon and made pretty clear that imprisonment was unacceptable. That idea was reinforced during episode "Birthright" by plenty of Klingon's other than Worf:guffaw:But we see dishonourable Klingon's all the time in Star Trek too

Much like Spock strove to be the "idealized" Vulcan. Just because they say something, doesn't mean they really mean it. Jesus says love the children, many Christians have no problems taking food and medical care away from them for a tax cut. And Roy Moore completely misunderstands "love the children".

I'm amazed that you remember Birthright and still don't get it. The whole premise of that episode was Klingons allowing themselves to be prisoners for a greater good.

But they do say that it dishonours them and their family if they find out they are still alive

WORF: Why did you allow it to happen?
GI'RAL: We had no choice. We were defending an outpost on the perimeter. The Romulans took out our shields. The next blast rendered us unconscious. When we awoke, we were prisoners, unarmed and shackled.
L'KOR: We were interrogated for three months. We tried to starve ourselves but they kept us alive.
GI'RAL: The Romulan Commander Tokath thought he was being kind.
L'KOR: The Romulans hoped to trade our lives for territorial concessions, but the Klingon High Council refused to negotiate. They would not acknowledge that their warriors had been taken prisoner.
GI'RAL: And when it was clear that we would be of no use to them, Tokath offered to let us go.
L'KOR: But we knew that our families believed we had fallen in battle, so we did not wish to return to dishonour them.
GI'RAL: We asked Tokath to let us stay and he took pity on us.
WORF: I understand your desire to preserve your family's honour. But what of your own? There is no honour in remaining prisoners.
L'KOR: We lost our honour when we were captured. It does not matter what happens to us.
GI'RAL: All that matters is that our families are not dishonoured.
L'KOR: Why did you come here? If you had found your father you would have found only dishonour.

Being incarcerated dishonours them, easy-peasy

The two renegade Klingons in TNG Heart of Glory give themselves up to Yar's security team pretty easily. Of course, that's because they have concealed weapons they are intending to use and break out, fight their way to the Battle Bridge and separate, then commandeer the stardrive section.

Worf is hung up on the "dishonor of capture" bit, but later Martok reminds him that a Klingon is only captive as long as he lets himself be, hence the "while there are still enemies to fight or hope of escape" bit.

L'Rell, similarly, has a secret weapon aboard Discovery she hopes to use to escape and complete her mission.
