How is he 'deflecting?' He has published a categoric denial and also a follow-up explaining and apologising for the Stern sketch. I think his position is pretty clear - it didn't happen.
Whether we believe him or not is a different matter, but he has set out his stall.
We'll see how close he gets to his 10 million downvotes.

Look, I hate Trump as much as anyone else. I despise him, actually.
But I'm really scratching my head here as to why George is deflecting here and essentially indirectly blaming Trump for this. It's just really strange to me.
Many have raised concern over a back-and-forth between Howard Stern and myself, where we joked about me touching men during my Star Trek days fifty years ago. Out of context, I agree that the joke was distasteful, and I’m very sorry he and I made fun out of a serious matter.
For decades, I have played the part of a “naughty gay grandpa” when I visit Howard’s show, a caricature I now regret. But I want to be clear: I have never forced myself upon someone during a date. Sometimes my dates were the initiators, and sometimes I was. It was always by mutual consent. I see now that that it has come across poorly in the awkward sketch, and I apologize for playing along with Howard’s insinuation.
Non-consensual acts are anathema to me and my personal code of conduct, and I would never do something against anyone’s will, period.
And here Takei sounds creepy as hell, which substantiates Brunton's story for me. I mean the questions were more than clear. "Did you ever grab anyone by the cock against their will?" And when there was no instant negation and a long pause there was another question. "Have you sexual harassed anyone?"
... and also a follow-up explaining and apologising for the Stern sketch. ...
Stern's question is very uniformed and a little ignorant.
There are places, where gay men go to for the purpose to have sex. Like the place where they arrested George Michael some years ago.
It was especially common when being gay was a crime or your social death. You went there, you approached someone nonverbally and you had quick sex and then you went back into the closet. The same with "they came to my home". There are websites where you can make a sex date.
And it's still there. There are bars, clubs, spas etc, even ships for this sole purpose. And no, you don't ask specifically for "permission", since it's a sex place.
Not all gay men frequent those places but the older ones most often have because being gay was - again - either a crime or your social death.
And taking that context in 2017, to judge it morally... in 1972 one of the frist movies about gay life was made. The title was "Not the homosexual is a pervert, the situtation he lives in, is".
You refer to the 1971 German film Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation, in der er lebt (It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives), which was released in the US almost seven years later. Most of the film was posted to YouTube in a playlist, but the first part was deleted, and—sadly—there are no subtitles. And taking that context in 2017, to judge it morally... in 1972 one of the frist movies about gay life was made. The title was "Not the homosexual is a pervert, the situtation he lives in, is".

No offense, but you seemed pretty strident about Takei being guilty, but now because he offered an explanation you find palatable, you change your mind? That's probably the best reason why the mob being driven merely by accusations is not a good way to adjudicate a crime.Ok, I wanted to chime in after reading Takei's response to his own comments on Stern.
In a nutshell, he said it was a joke and he was playing the role of a "bad grandpa".
While he only has 1 accusation against him, I'm inclined to accept his explanation. But if even one more person accuses him, I don't think his joking explanation can be believable.
So I'm HOPING nothing else comes to light and whatever happened with the 1 man accusing him was a 'misunderstanding' of some sort that can be resolved between them.
Yea he argued with me for pages and pages about it :-) next time just agree with me sheeshNo offense, but you seemed pretty strident about Takei being guilty, but now because he offered an explanation you find palatable, you change your mind?
