Best First Officer in the history of Trek

Sci-fi fan

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Top notch supermodel walk, taller than a mountain, lean like a stick

Extremely reserved and well thought, counts his words

Original alien species, and an odd one

Um no. While the acotr does a great job and the alien species is unique and different, I hate Saru. He is a coward and has no business being a Starfleet officer and no way would I want to server with him much less under him. Saru should be a non-Starfleet scientist and have no command responsibilities.

Love Saru and Doug Jones, but I don't like him better than any of the other first officers (yet).

I'd probably say Riker was the best, but if I was a captain and needed a first officer, I'm takin' Kira.

I wanna like Chakotay but his mom, I mean captain really ignored him mostly. She shoulda just had no first officer, just a captain understudy.

As the show is not bridge centered, I have not seen enough of Saru's work onscreen to say he's done a superlative job under Lorca. He admittedly has not been consulted on major personnel decisions. That bring said, most of Discovery's value in turning the tide of the war was done offscreen.

He did well commanding the ship though, with his tactical skills in determining that Lorca was on the shuttle being a masterpiece. This is somewhat offset by him losing the Tartigrade through not following the advice of his people closest to the situation. His performance on the away mission is hard to determine as he went through a major brain injury.

Having XOs that didn't have their own position on the bridge didn't work dramatically for either Riker or Chakotay. They ended up relating obvious orders, making them just butlers to the ship.

At least Frakes made his mark behind the camera.
