    IIRC, this was the first non-canon asymmetrical design in Trek history.

    Yeah, in another thread I postulated that the sarcophagus ship is actually just a normal TOS-era battle cruiser, but over the years it became coated in so many layers of Klingon coffins that the exterior now looks all jagged and weird, like a boat hopelessly covered in barnacles.
