I think I like it. It has that curious mix of old man rummaging around in a charity shop bin meets high fashion. I definitely like the look of the coat, looks like it has a hood which I can see working well. The high waisted trousers are a bit Simon Cowell but women do wear trousers higher up than blokes mostly, and sadly someone's already made some Mork and Mindy comments online so I can't get that out of my head now (but is an M&M comparison that bad anyway?) Not what I was expecting, but I can already see her pushing her coat back to stick her hands in her pocket in a very Doctorly fashion.
The rainbow stripes give it a bit of a Tom Baker feel (though Mork occurred to me too). Overall, it looks kind of thrown together and not as stylish as her predecessors' looks -- which is probably a good thing, since it subverts the expectation that a female lead should be more glamorous and sexy. And they're going with a hood after all. I figured the hood in the debut video was just for the sake of hiding her appearance, but I guess it made enough of an impact (and has already sparked enough cosplay) that they decided to keep that element.
I definitely see the Mork & Mindy connection and it's one that was playing in the back of my head because it did look familiar. I don't mind that comparison at all. I also like how this outfit isn't trying to emulate any of the previous outfits. And I believe this is the first one not to feature a collar of any kind. Yeah, that's one British term I can't and won't adapt! I hear braces and I immediately think of teeth. So very different.
I'm pleased to see it's totally unsexualised. I would prefer something a tad more traditional though.
Reminds me of Tom and Colin Bakers outfits mostly. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of this look, probably my least favourite Doctors costume to be fair, I hope she gets some variants that do her justice. Should have just stuck to the promo look, the long grey coat is the only thing on this that works (I mean I do love braces, but this outfit's too much of a surprisingly colour coordinated mishmash for me). Give her skinny jeans and she'll have a more hipster look which to be honest, I'd prefer...maybe it's mostly my hatred for loose fitting trousers like that which has put me off, if the outfit was balanced by slimmer trousers then she'd look a lot less clown-like. At least the TARDIS is looking nice, that might turn out to be my favourite look for a TARDIS exterior. So much conflict going on rn...
Same here. A great relief indeed. Although, I personally find women wearing suspenders (not braces ) sexy. I like the hood a lot. It's a nice contrast from the previous outfits and it's one we've never seen before with The Doctor. Ah, yeah. I knew I was forgetting something. His jacket did have a collar, and considering he never took it off, then I'm more or less right.
Weirdly, I was thinking that, too! "I could see Matt Smith's Doctor wearing this." I blame the boots.
Let's see... US: garter belt / UK: suspenders US: suspenders / UK: braces US: braces /UK: mouth brace It was years before I understood the line about "high heels, suspenders, and a bra" in Monty Python's "Lumberjack Song." Although it still kind of works if you use the American definition, because it implies some kind of hybrid look between a lumberjack and a transvestite in lingerie. Seems quite possible. Lots of prior Doctors have changed their looks from season to season. And this is the first time the Doctor's been a woman, so it makes sense that she'd have a learning curve on the question of wardrobe. Maybe "clown-like" is the intention. Perhaps she'll be a Troughtonesque Doctor. Although we already had that with Smith, sort of. Oh, I didn't notice the changed TARDIS. It looks a lot like the classic-series version -- no St. John's Ambulance logo, solid-color windows, black door sign, scuffed paint. I miss the Smith/Capaldi version.
Oh, huh. I hadn't know that. Still learning. Yeah, I can see that. I really love her boots despite or because (don't know) of the connection to The Eleventh Doctor.
I could do without the Wesley Crusher-esque rainbow stripes, but otherwise it's an alright outfit. I am curious, if the rumours are true about her Doctor being split in three, are they all going to wear this, or might we see some variation in colours for the different ones?
Urgh, the outfit in the reveal trailer was way better. that said, if this is her costume, note the shoulder/lapels reflect the War Games/ Three Doctors' Time Lord robe designs... Over Mork's outfit.
The outfit seems very non-traditional and even eccentric to me. I wonder if that means that 13 is going to be a very wacky, eccentric doctor?
