When will the Constitution Class make an appearance?

Too smooth. The new Enterprise will have lots of doohickeys sticking out every which way. Think the new D7, except hopefully Enterprise will still be recognizable. Now, lol, imagine for a second, lol, that they completely re-imagine Constitution class in the way they did the D7. I know, I know. They would never radically change such an icon ship as Enterprise, right, right? Or WOULD they?

I heard the new enterprise carried the corpses of defeated Klingons, ya know just to troll the other side.

And it definitely appear at the end of Season 1 finale as part of a cliffhanger. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
You're not my father :wah:

Ooh, found this pic of Discovery meeting Enterprise...

I don't want to see it, but if we must I would prefer the route Doctor Who went with the Daleks. Same design and dimensions, just with maybe a bit more detail to withstand our modern HD viewing. Either that or the original version as it is.

I could see them keeping the original design AND costumes exactly the same, because they'd want to make a visual point.

I've forgotten in the recent book, doesn't it mention the Enterprise and its crew look like they do in the original pilot?

So far, they haven't "reimagined" anything we would already have seen. Sarek looks more or less like Sarek and dresses like him. No Klingon character has been seen outside DSC. Any ship new to this show is a ship never seen elsewhere, either.

I'd say the D7 qualifies as a change. One could argue that it's a different model or something, but it was a pointless change that really didn't add anything. They should have just changed the name if they were going to use a different ship.

The possible Constitution concepts I've seen posted in the thread would actually be pretty cool, but if they make it look completely different? Yeah, that would be kind of annoying.

Most likely the D7 underwent a major refit, like the Constitution later went through.

I wouldn't love it if the Constitution class looked like one of those updates posts in this thread.

If they do show a reimagined Constitution class, I hope they gid rid of that damn deflector dish with the antenna on it. It worked in the 60's. It just looks corny now. I like some of the overall redesigns in this thread, though. Gabe Koerner's design looks great, minus the dish.

I'd guess loads of self-illumination due to how they render the images versus clearly using a studio model. New hull coloring/aztecing of some kind (probably that pearlescent white the 09 ENT has or the DSC grey/silver). Visible phaser banks, possibly adding a window, new starfleet banners, and more than likely re-tuning the hull profile in general to look more organic on screen compared to its 1960's counterpart. Hanzhefu has the absolute best renders in my mind for a good baseline. The profile is still clearly the Constitution's and he even captures elements of both the Cage-era Connie as well as bringing in some TMP/09 vibes. The compiled photos below I think make-up the best starting point to re-imagining the Connie for use in DSC>

This, or something very much like this, would be awesome. It's also pretty close to what I would expect at this point.

I hope it will get a slight modernised look!
The slightly backswept pylons looks great...and the discrete sleekness does no harm!
As long as it is recogniseable I am cool!
I like these new looks of the ships....frankly alot of these old barges needed a new look! Always thought that the old Klingon ships did not look alien enough! While I loved the old Enterprise, I loved the movie refit look more....always thought that those tubes on those straight pylons looked slow and odd!
(actually I just remembered something from when I was a kid, I did have an Enterprise model, and I did mod the pylons so that they where slanted instead!...loved it)

A canon violation if I've ever seen one!

...It is, now isn't it? In the Trek universe, we know the Enterprise looked different, as seen in the opening credits of ENT (real tiles, real RCS, name written below the cockpit window rather than on the bay door). :vulcan:

They both look like they have been up to no good.

I do wonder about the Constitution class if we do see one, will they keep the round nacelles or ditch them.

There didn't seem to be any ships at the battle of the Binary Stars with round nacelles, even the really old ones like the Shenzou were mostly squared off.

I suspect we will get a ship with the same overall shape as the Constitution class but with an overall design like that of the Europa for its colours and textures, I myself would expect the nacelles to be the same squared off design as well.

I appreciate some may not like that though. :techman:

On the other hand, Star Trek has never reimagined Kirk's ship. Instead, four distinct spinoffs and two movie series have shown the original 1960s style contraption exactly as is, regardless of whether they were filmed in the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s or the 2000s. Heck, even the one movie series that showed us a different, "parallel" Enterprise had the original displayed hanging from the ceiling of a character (in a scene that was cut for unrelated reasons). So...

Enterprise was reimagined/refit for TMP. We never saw the original design in a movie again until the cut scene from Into Darkness.

But ST:TMP made it painfully clear that the old ship had existed, and that she had looked exactly like she did in TOS: they showed a picture of her.

We kept seeing this picture, or others like it, throughout all of Star Trek, and sometimes we saw the ship herself (or a sister ship), unaltered.

The only real exception was VOY, which didn't as much as show an Okudagram, for whatever reason.

DSC is not justified in "reimagining by refitting" because the timeline doesn't allow for that. Unless Starfleet does back-and-forth refits over a weekend, that is. Those other shows didn't have to mind timelines and still they chose never to reimagine. Why would DSC be different?

Should look like Pike's ship in ST:NV. NO need to change the exterior. Rather not see any interiors if they will modernize it. Maybe a Pike or Spock grainy hologram?

I actually had a dream last night about this! In 43 years, I've never had a Trek dream (that I remember), but I thought my subconscious handled it pretty well, so bear with me.....

The Disco was in some sort of firefight (probably with Klingons), and the forward starboard section of the bridge hull had been blasted open, but a forcefield was in place. They were in trouble, but through that rip in the hull in the far-off distance you could see an incoming warp streak, that resolves into the very familiar front profile of a Constitution class. It was still at an extreme distance, so you could only just barely make it out. The Enterprise (probably Pike) comes over audio "This is the USS Enterprise, blah blah blah.......", and the Klingons run off without the E having to fire a shot. Lorca says "Thanks for the assist, Enterprise", and you can see again far off through the rip the Enterprise turning and heading off at warp.

I thought this works pretty well, since you can only just barely make out the shape of the Enterprise, and any details are lost, so no worries about matching or updating the ship too much. We also don't see Pike or the Enterprise bridge since it was just audio communication. Plus, without the E firing, they don't have to worry about changing or matching TOS effects. If they actually did it like this, I would be pretty satisfied.
