looks likes they are hedging their bets, note that they are keeping all the new design uniforms and other stuff from the most recent movie.

Keeping that stuff around costs money (storage space ain't free in Hollywood), and if there aren't any plans to reuse all those costumes and props from Star Treks XI and XII, then they ought to auction them off.

Well, under that logic Lucasfilm would not have an archives. It really depends on the studio whether they think these things should be treated like valuable heirlooms or just hocked off for petty cash.

Paramount/CBS has always treated its old assets in a rather careless manner.

i find this depressing, like i found the previous star trek auctions depressing - i find it more acceptable to imagine these semi-sacred objects stored away in the studio vault rather than sitting on someone's coffee table. but maybe that's just me.

still see nothing here that says there will/won't be a 4th kelvin timeline film.

Nah, it's just getting rid of stuff they don't have any further use for and don't feel the need to keep around. It's a garage sale by any other name.

    (emphasis mine)

Isn't it true that (unless they've been relocated quite recently) the Lucasfilm Archives are not in Hollywood, but far, far away (400 miles, give or take a bit depending upon route selected, but definitely a distance not to be traversed in anything less than 12 parsecs) at Skywalker Ranch (where the facility and property are company-owned, and the storage rates presumably far more favorable than any to be found in Hollywood or the greater Los Angeles area)?

    Not a good sign....
How can they know now, with no movie announced, what they'll need or not? The Klingons uniforms and props stuff could be still needed..even the old uniforms for flashbacks....

    This is depressing.

Eta: interesting they keep the beyond's stuff when, technically, assuming they want to make another movie the uniforms could get changed again if the costume designer is different. Wasn't that the only reason why they didn't use Kaplan's uniforms for beyond too?

i doubt they're selling everything from the first two movies.

i would imagine if they did a 4th, they'd stick with the beyond uniforms regardless of who they hire for costume design. it's not proprietary.

They remade everything for Beyond - sets, uniforms and even phasers were all-new. What they're selling is old, and they'd probably just make them anew for the next movie anyway.

Yup. From what I recall, it was easier / more practical to do that than break down / transport the existing ones from Los Angeles to be reassembled on a Vancouver soundstage.

I liked Kaplan's uniforms better :/ if we are stuck with beyond's ones it's not cool.
I think the actors found them as unconfortable as they look, and so did some of the extras. The main issue seems to be that high collar and zip on the back, as well as the stiff material. Zoe probably is the only one who didn't mind because the dress uniform isn't as bad, and she probably likes long sleeves better as she would get cold on set with the short ones.

Also worth pointing out that Pine and Quinto bulked up for Into Darkness, and likely had different uniforms made to show off their build. Pine's uniform in ID is noticeably different (around the neck) to the one he wore at the tail end of ST'09.

So selling off costumes from years ago really doesn't say much.

Wow, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. None of this stuff being auctioned has been used in nearly five years, yet the fact that Paramount's getting rid of it means the sky is falling, the Kelvin Timeline is done leaving us stuck with STD.

The costumes and sets from Beyond are still being held onto, aren't they? Well, wake me up when those start being auctioned off. Than the Kelvin Timeline may actually be drawing the final curtain. Until then, go back to your regularly scheduled cynicisms and off-base speculation.

Of course, the real crime going on here is the use of leading 0s in the numbering of the packing crates. Completely at odds with crates used to pack up earlier Trek paraphernalia. :shifty:

    Yep.
However, this is just the latest thing adding to pre-existing fuel here so people's concerns aren't far fetched at this point. Near one year and half after beyond got released, there is no word about a fourth movie. And this combined with beyond's, let's say it, failure (it made them lose money) makes people worried that it's the end of this trek.

I'm kind of shocked how many people think they would actually reuse costumes from a movie that came out 9 years ago. Imagine getting the actors to fit in them! Even if they've grown so much as a half inch around the middle in 9 years it wouldn't work. These are big budget movies and they can easily replicate costumes if need be.

Paramount has bigger problems than Beyond's lack of clear profitability, so I wouldn't doubt if we don't see another Trek film for some time.

That being said.... this auction has nothing to do with any of that.
