Discovery and "The Orville" Comparisons

This would just be TV that would be worthless suckage.

Anyway, "Krill" may be my least favorite Orville episode but I enjoyed it. All of the episodes have been good - light fun in some surprising ways, but good in most of the same ways that Trek was when Trek was worth a spit.

I have no beef with McFarlane's POV about religion; it's fairly widespread, if still a minority view, among younger folks.

I've actually come to hate the Orville....
In general, I've observed a tendency for people to glorify the Orville as a mean to downgrade DSC..... I know this is a specific Orville VS DSC thread, but I see it everywhere.... just feels wrong for Trekkies to do really, feels like flirting with another woman but your wife...
I just really don't care about The Orville at all... what I've seen from it looks funny and really conveys the spirit of TNG, but this all 'watch me gush over Orville while thrashing DSC'-thing annoys me like hell...

It nicely shows the heroes attempts to wage war, "Right" is a doomed cause even if I admire them for minimizing the collateral damage.

Personally, I try not make a judgment on the quality of a show due to its fans.

Prelude to Axanar was a decent idea with very little story behind it that thrived for no other reason than its format. Based on the script I read, Axanar proper would have been a piece of trash with beautiful effects.

Orville is entertaining but there’s something that doesn’t quite sit right with me. Part of it, I think, is from the over abundance of 20th and 21st century pop culture references in a show set the 25th century. I had some serious issues with the last episode but it’s not enough to make me tune out.

Discovery is an interesting concept. I like the characters for the most part and the idea of a science ship being conscripted for war is a cool idea. It’s a little flawed in its execution, not only in the show’s main premise but also in the Klingon culture. (I don’t give a fuck about the makeup.) Also, the writing could be a little stronger.

These three are also markably different concepts. Despite how one may feel about the people in charge, Axanar is a fan film. Period. Orville is a sci-fi action adventure series that plays homage to Star Trek of the past. Discovery is an attempt to bring Star Trek into the 21st century, warts and all.

Orville isn’t Star Trek period, even the comedy are unrealistic unlike the ones involving Quark in DS9.

Orville is its own thing, with comedy mixed with the drama. It has fun with the concepts and technology, but doesn't shy away from actually challenging different beliefs. It has some interesting, thought provoking concepts, and fun.

I think you've fixed on a peculiar and inapplicable standard here - "mature" - which seems to mean something mysterious to you. I say "mysterious," because the story examples you've offered illustrate no maturity at all.

Cynicism is not mature. Acquiescence to evil behavior because Reasons is neither mature nor admirable. Yet these are the things you cite.

I'm also not sure your descriptions show an understanding of what Sisko actually did in the episode that you keep pounding away on.
