I'm reasonably sure that PTSD is a clinical diagnosis that few people here would be qualified to make. Were there someone in this discussion qualified to make such a clinical judgement, I would submit that she or he would not yet have enough evidence to make a diagnosis.

Is there not scope to see Burnham's actions as human (with all the concomitant potential for stupidity and rationality and everything in between) without trying to pathologise them? Not trying to stick my head in the tardigrade's mouth here, I'm just asking :)

Vulcan education, is the education of shutting down your emotions.

It's possible, 6 months after watching her mother or girlfriend get murdered, that Burnham's brain is fine.

I apologize if this has been mentioned in the 44 Pages but, Starfleet was able to get the old telescope from the Shenzou, but they were not able to put a few torpedoes into the disabled Klingon ship sitting in their territory for 6-Month?

If people needed a qualification to express an opinion, the world would be a pretty boring place. I'm reasonably sure that no one is really qualified to talk about a hypothetical faster than light engine, or subspace mechanics but people do it anyway, ad nauseum. I'm speculating that Burnham does have PTSD based on evidence i think supports the case for it. Other people are speculating that she is a psychopath. Okay sure, let's discuss it to the best of our ability regardless of our qualifications. That what this board is for, right?

Actually they don't. You're trying to say that someone seeing a Klingon who was the victim of a Klingon attack, shouldn't be triggered by seeing a Klingon, that it should have been an explosion that caused Burnhams to react the way that she did. The articles clearly state that anything a sufferer of PTSD can associate with an initial trauma will trigger flashbacks. If a balloon popping can cause an army vet to think he is in a war zone, i think coming face to face with Klingon can make Burnham think about the trauma of losing her parents.
You have no idea what you're talking about.

She didn't encounter Klingons or even know the Klingons were attacking, she was inside a building then boom everything exploded.

PTSD triggers from an event like that would be loud sudden noises, surprise impacts, bright sudden flashes of light, or the smell of something burning or of the building itself.

It wouldn't be anything to do with Klingons, because she didn't see them, hear them, smell them, or in any way experience them. Her total experience of the event in fact was just "Boom".

Blame bad writing and scene design if you want, but reality is reality.

Sorry pal, i disagree. She knew the Klingons killed her parents, she associated them with loss and trauma, as evidenced by her response when learning about them at the Vulcan school. PTSD can be triggered by people, places or things that remind the sufferer of a traumatic event. It doesn't have to be the specific person, place or thing, to cause flashbacks or a traumatic response.

It's possible, 6 months after watching her mother or girlfriend get murdered, that Burnham's brain is fine.

Or at least that part of her brain that serves as the center for her PTSD symptoms has been trained through Vulcan meditation and other mental exercises to be buried or subdued so that those memories and emotions rarely if ever surface in force during her life with Sarek.

Yes it is, but I'm not getting into a tiresome exchange about your opinion on my opinion on your opinion because I actually don't care that much. I just feel that using clinical terminology you aren't qualified to deploy is not necessary or relevant, and said as much. You feel that it is. Good for you. Slow clap.

So, cool your jets. We're all friends here :)

Odds are, nobody "got" it in a dedicated process of returning to the battlefield. Rather, somebody grabbed it when the order to evacuate the ship was sounded, and carried it along to one of the escape pods. And then the thing sat on a shelf while Burnham rotted in prison and wasn't allowed personal items of zero use inside a cell (except for bludgeoning one's cellmate).

Are we sure "replicated" is the right word?

I still think that Sarek may all be Fight Club and... OH!

Stamets may be right.

Burnham is a Vulcan cosplaying as a human being.

Michael Burnham, a human male child, died on Doctari Alpha... But not before Sarek took out his Katra, and put it inside a Vulcan female child, who's parents had also died... Or considering how Vulcans age differently to humans, the two Michael's did not have to be close to the same age when Sarek transferred consciousnesses between the two people.

The woman we know as Michael might have been brain dead, or had no higher functions? More-so, that might explain why the Vulcan woman we know as Michael was forced to serve in Starfleet by her "father", because humans are just dumb enough to not know the difference between a human and Vulcan after some very minor cosmetic ear surgery.

Cool, all I'm doing is enjoying a debate with another a poster about a topic we both clearly feel passionate about. I'm not sure why the way i was expressing myself was of such concern to you. Also, who are you to determine, what I'm qualified to say or not say? Perhaps I have been diagnosed with PTSD, perhaps I've had a traumatic incident in my life and identified with Burnham, Maybe I'm a psychologist? You don't know a thing about me so who are you to judge? If we're all friends here perhaps you can ease off on the condescending and belittling comments?

Does anyone have a theory as to what Discovery left behind to destroy the last few Bird of Preys? I haven't had a chance to re-watch, but it looked like little pink sticks? Some sort of mine, perhaps?

I only briefly skimmed the 44 pages so apologies for retreading.

I like Stammets more every week and Lorca is a grade A bastard. I love him, and Tilly and the rest of them.

I get that this is a lot darker than previous shows but it is very good, this week was a 7 for me and little predictable, the spore drive is great, the scene where they dropped almost into the heart of a sun is good

People seem to be upset by Klingons eating humans.

The Klingons were starving to death, humans eat people when starving to death too.

I'd be disappointed if Klingons didn't eat the body of a vanquished enemy if they were starving. Klingons will eat the heart of a fallen adversary if their stomachs are already full so why wouldn't the surviving Klingons on T'Kuvma's ship eat her? They'd be stupid not to.

To Klingons their own dead bodies are merely shells to be disposed of or laid to rest in a ceremony. They probably think even less of the dead bodies of other species.

That's how McCoy's SS uniform looked when it was being synthesized, folks. That's how it looked.

Well, it was a German uniform so the synthesizer screamed in a loud voice and depressed McCoy as he removed the clothing.

I'm imagining the synthesizer screaming at McCoy like Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes or the guy who played adolf hitler in the movie downfall. :D
