I loved seeing the older Federation seal at the end of the transmission from Corvan II. It's nice to see the creators dip back into the TOS era and its associated books and other printed guides and manuals for inspiration. The UFP in the 2250s should be using a slightly older logo.

i find it hard to follow the subtitles and watch the klingons at the same time. So i keep pausing it and figure out what they are saying, then rewind and watch it again.

I think the higher scores are because the previous three episodes left a lot to be desired. This episode had some flashes of classic Trek, but is still not yet there.

It's funny to think that people are so caught up n their own viewpoints and biases that they can't conceive of the most simple and rational explanation for the high scores that are being generate:

Because lots of people happen to be enjoying the show more than you.

I know...I know...it's almost unfathomable...but give it some thought.

;)

Season 3 is overrated. At its best, it felt like a cheap knockoff of DS9. Except they didn't bother even thinking things through in the writing room (just it "Xindi weapon" and "Xindi homeworld"? Really? ). And the level in which it was a season long arc was oversold because about 2/3rds of it had nothing to do with the greater arc except that the Enterprise was wandering around in the Delphic Expanse looking for the McGuffin.
There's like only 3 or 5 episodes that really don't have to be part of the Xindi story, but those are some of the best ones. North Star, Similitude, Doctor's Orders.

You can't do 26 episodes in a season and have them all be about a single story. In Ds9, they started the dominion thing, then most of the rest was ferengi episodes, klingon weddings, Frank Sinatra romances, etc.

I'm just glad all my years watching foreign films has paid off.

Also, does anyone else feel like they've kicked a puppy any time Tilly looks sad or scared?

I think it's also okay for people to be critical of the show without necessarily hating it. I like watching the show and this episode was okay, but the Klingon scenes dragged it down for me and I don't understand how anyone could grade it a 9/10. But I'm not anyone, so who cares?

In fairness, you did speak up about how you don't get why some people clearly love the series so far. That makes it fair game for discussion.

I get more of that angry, must kick ass testosterone driven shit feeling. My threat ganglia are all over the place, gangliang as they do. I want to protect her, marry her, and have lots of insecure, weird kids.
It's one hell of a reaction, isn't it?

That’s a mean thing to say. I like puppies but I don’t see that when I see Tilly.

Yes I know it was just an expression of speech but I kinda like what we’ve seen from Tilly so far, warts and all.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Captain Ransom's "enhanced" warp drive yet.

The Klingon stuff DOES drag it down.

Not so much that it counteracts my enjoyment of the shipboard Discovery stuff, though.

I think Dukat is good example of writer/actor synergy.

I think that goes for most oft he DS9 cast.

Of course, but Dukat was meant to be a villain, but due to the way Mark Alaimo played him (as absolutely sure he was actually the hero) people began identifying with him even though that was not the intent of the writers at all, who wanted him to be...quite literally...Hitler.

No, that's what I'm saying. I adore Tilly. Anytime she looks scared or sad, I feel like I've kicked a puppy, and like I need to apologize or something. Tilly's super adorable. ♥

Don't get me wrong, I think everything is fair game for discussion (as it relates to the show).
I understand. I'm just saying it's true that people can ignore it, as it is an opinion, just as I have opinions, but they can also engage on it and ask why. Sometimes that leads to better communication between differing viewpoints. :D

Michael Burnham is the moral compass for the show, and the others will come to her way of thinking. Or they will die a gruesome death. I bet Captain Lorca will be in the later group, but I will miss his sexy bad-assary.
