I thought the newest episode of Orville was HILLARIOUS!

Seriously, the leg, I mean come on that was funny.

We're never going to get humor like that on discovery, we're never going to get discovery level suspense or action on orville.

To me it feels more like "Cleveland Cavs vs AZ Diamond Backs

I get it, ships, space, but that's really all they have in common, I honestly don't think they are alike enough.

Exactly. The snarky comment was about Discovery, not Generations
    .
I'm not sure why you're getting a personal vibe here. I don't even watch Orville, and I'm happy other people are enjoying it. I just find the comparisons tiresome.

My point with graphics was to show that most Trek bridges are not always bright like others seem to suggest, and Discovery's look is not far off from what we've seen before, and is in fact quite consistent-- so the little jab in an otherwise fair and innocuous post was just the poster being a dick.

The only reason people are comparing the two shows is timing. If the shows weren't debuting at the same time we wouldn't have this discussion.

As for your mention of submarines, remember it was Nick Meyer who wanted that feeling on TWOK and after, feeling Starfleet should be more like the Navy. Which is in fact quite true: Starships are more like Subs than luxury liners.

Which does explain the E-D: which was indeed a luxury liner, in comparison to other Trek ships, as they had families and civilians on board.

So it should look like a sub.

Yes, people would care. People like my dad, who enjoys science fiction for the sake of it, my wife who likes fun characters, my friends who don't like science fiction but enjoy comedy, etc.

I don't care if it "feels" like Trek (to me, it doesn't save for in very superficial ways). It's a well done show in its own right and moving past the comparisons will do both shows a favor.

Comparisons serve one purpose only at this point:

An insecure person who really likes one but hopes the other will fail miserably is going to bang this drum. Otherwise it's a meaningless and self-defeating path to attack one and proclaim the virtues of the other.

Again...we love to be absolutists on the interwebs. You're either with us or against us.

Well, I'm against you...on the principle of the matter ;)

    I'm also against you...nothing personal ;)

Also, on a more serious note, I am truly dismayed at the lack of open dialog in many spheres of life. That, alone, makes me weep.

Actually, I meant First Contact as I for some reason thought that was the Sovereign-class one but that was a brain fart on my part.

Between a boring bold move and the lost opportunity to have already been two interesting (ideas filled) episodes in, I'd choose the latter. Considering how short the season is, I really don't understand the need to have wasted two episodes on developing a character which people now dislike.

There have been no ideas introduced in STD. In The Orville every episode has explored something new.
I don't know what you mean by super balls.

eh.... orville hasnt really introduced anything we havent seen before. bortus and his kid is real close but the "one world has one stance and ours is morally opposed" thing isnt exactly new either.
