WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

You mean Star Wars IX, right? And I'd assume they brought him back because he did a good job the first time, and because his availability worked out.
I agree, and I loved Episode 7, but you will find those in the Star Wars forum who cannot understand why Abrams was brought back considering how he, in their opinion, ruined their franchise. And my point has always been that regardless of your opinion of the quality of the movie, it made $2 billion, which makes Abrams the safest bet for Disney. It is the same here, Warner Brothers is going to execute what they consider the safest financial bet.

Which just goes to show how little they understand the process. Abrams's role in Star Wars was much more constrained than his role in the Star Trek reboot. He didn't have total creative control over The Force Awakens; he was working for Kathleen Kennedy, and working with Lawrence Kasdan as a writer and producer. It amazes me how the kneejerk Abrams-bashers were so quick to completely ignore Lawrence Kasdan's (Lawrence Kasdan's!!!!) involvement with the movie and talk as though Abrams were the sole creator. But anyway, as we've seen with the Han Solo movie -- and, for that matter, with Colin Trevorrow's replacement by Abrams -- if Abrams had done anything Kennedy didn't agree with, he would've gotten the boot.

I now see what the problem is in regard to pop culture today. Just reading these comments made me finally see the light. I don't know what it is about today's society, but it seems that the public is more willing to embrace the familiar, the conservative and nostalgia in culture - including pop culture - than give anything new or challenging a chance. It seems as if everyone wants Marvel to continue its current rut of following its formula and they want the D.C. Comics movies to regress to the past. And Warner Bros. is planning to give the audiences what they want, just as Marvel has been doing.

It’s not just Hollywood. Television has become even worse. I hear CBS is planning a (prequel) TV series based on an old NBC sci-fi series! Can you imagine? Enough with the '60s NOSTALGIA! Give us something NEW AND ORIGINAL people!

JJ has considerably more clout than any of the other directors attached to SW properties, I'd imagine he had a much stronger position to argue his point if any disagreements cropped up during the production of VII.

I have no problem with JJ Abrams, I liked his super 8 and Star Trek 11 movies.
I still don't see it as a reboot because they have the original Spock and he travelt back in time.
Otherwise you could call Star Wars EP7 also a reboot because it has almost the same story as ANH.

But back to topic, I can't wait to see Justice League and how they bring Superman back, and If he has clones like in the comics, I hope they will be played by Routh, Welling and Cain ;)

But it will be at a slower tempo and in a minor key.
I'd love to see the fight scene from 'Batman V Superman' between Batman & the KGBeast's henchman holding Martha Kent with that theme in the background and word balloons popping up every time someone was hit :).

I would too. I'm sure that somebody has the time and skills to edit that.

I happen to prefer the Marvel films but gave up on AoS after S1 and am struggling with Iron Fist.

Most of Marvel's TV series are Blink-and--you-miss-them affairs, aside from Daredevil & Jessica Jones. The only thing that matters are the movies, and the majority of the movie-going audiences do not care about any suggested continuity to the TV series, which makes them optional, instead of necessary in the grand scheme of things.

Didn't enjoy Wonder Woman at all.

Curious--what did you find disappointing about WW?

The whole 'DC v Marvel' thing bores me, I just want to be entertained by films and TV shows. That's not to say that my tastes are objectively better than anyone who has a different view on the above films & series, it just means that they differ. Talk of conspiracies are ludicrous, IMHO.

Yes, the conspiracy talk is ridiculous.

Will they do a callback to the Wonder Woman TV show theme? :D

That's something that annoys me about the MCU. I'd love to see more Easter Eggs at least between the various films & series. For instance in AOS Agent Coulson is seen reading a copy of the Daily Bugle. in the next Spider-Man film there are ads on the sides of buses for Jessica Jones' Sister's radio talk show like there was in the Jessica Jones show, or he could even have the show playing in the background on his radio. In 'Captain America Civil War' when Tony Stark visited Peter Parker he could have asked him if he has powers because he's inhuman. Little things like that, not big shout-outs that require people who only like or watch the films to watch the shows to do so.

Yes, I'd like to see more of this kind of thing too.

I may have found a couple of attempts on You Tube:

I like the effects and editing from the first attempt, but the fight music from the latter.

New JL art book of the film.

I loved the Wonder Woman movie so I got the art book for that and it was awesome. I'll get this JL art book too if I end up liking the film.

I'm a fan of all of them and the XMU (Is that a thing?) in no particular order.

The MU-tant?

The Mu-MU?? (Mutant Movie Universe)

Now does Fox also work with Universal? Then it could be the F.U. F.U. (Fox-Universal Film Universe)

Please. Its no conspiracy theory when certain "fans" while on an on about how "dark" DC films are and specifically point to Guardians and the Avengers movies (among others) as the preferred contrast...which happen to be the most lightweight, jokey films in the MCU. Moreover, this faction has also criticized the Cap films (Winter Soldier a bit more than others) for being "too serious" or essentially charging them with being Bond/Bourne movies with superhero trappings.
The percentage of fans who feel the way to described I think correlates with the percentage of Muslims who wholeheartedly agree with the 9/11 terrorists.

If that group criticized the Captain AMerica films, then it's got to be a small percentage of those who also criticized the DC Film Universe.
No sale. WW is anything but the stand-up/Power Rangers show that is so much of the MCU. In the WW review thread, I recall some trying to pick at the film for its increasingly dark themes leading to the final battle and Steve's death...in between the by-the-minute whining about Zach Snyder.
No one was expecting or even wanting something with the feel Power Rangers or the old WW TV show. They just wanted a hero they could believe in (and also feel like their origin made sense in terms of being a hero).
I've heard many who love the DC movies and feel the DC TV series are silly, misguided, and not at all a film version of the source, etc.

Uh, how many exactly, and in what forum? Surely not here on TrekBBS... We're not expecting a complete and straight translation from the comics -- just some thing that has a general "comic book feel". DC TV has proven time and again how they actually respect the history of the characters (i.e. previous media & stories)...so with that obvious respect , we're pretty cool with the changes they made for the TV medium. It's kinda like how Raimi made some significant changes for SPider-Man (i.e. Organic webshooters and essentially having Gwen Stacy but calling her MJ - Mary Jane).. yeah, it those who a bit weird & hard to swallow, but the overall movie worked out, and those little snippets (i.e. someone singing the old cartoon theme song, JK SImmons hitting it out of the park with a very comic booky J. Jonah Jameson, etc.) really makes me fond of the movie.

Oh, and something I keep forgetting to say in these threads.... I want a movie/TV show that I can SHARE with my kids. Other heroes...like Logan...it's OK that his last movie was pretty adult. The character technically is supposed to be for kids (despite all the action fires, Halloween costumes, etc.).But Superman, more than just about any of them, should be one you can share with your little kids.

The other thing is that the Snyder movies seems to have sabotaged the good things they set up, or sometimes never even set them up in the first place.

Martha Kent's helping CLark focus and use his powers correctly really felt like she was working with someone with special needs (like autism), which feels very modern and "realistic", but yet actually makes sense for SUperman. What they COULD have done was have Martha then later become a child therapist, and have Clark visit her at the end of a session, and see the child smile, and then Clark say "You'r e my hero, Ma." THAT would have made sense. Instead, we have a bitter waitress in B v S who I feel had this line cut from her speech to CLark "..And Get Off My Lawn!!"

Similarly, Jonathan's talk with young Clark evokes the modern concern about bullying, but totally makes sense in he choices young CLark needs to make now, and the challenge for the future. It's just that later on, Jonathan comes off as paranoid, and his sacrifice for a dog just seems kinda dumb and pointless. It doesn't evoke the selflessness that we feel Superman should have.

Superman having to kill someone...we really needed AT LEAST one movie to show Superman's no killing rule. That way, him having to do it could feel tragic, rather than I think some people's minds jumping him from non-hero to killer in a couple of hours.
