WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

I used to be a major fan of 1978's "Superman: The Movie". Now, I just like it. I don't care for Reeve's other three Superman movies. I'm still a big fan of Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. I'm a big fan of "MoS" and the other three DCEU films. And I'm a fan of most of the MCU films.

But I have been dissatisfied with the MCU films of the last two years and "Iron Man 3" - with the exception of "Ant-Man", ironically. I'm hoping that "Thor" and "Black Panther" will renew my appreciation of the MCU.

I just realized -- Danny Elfman wrote the theme to the 1990 The Flash TV series. So if he wants to bring back classic hero themes, why not bring back his own Flash theme?

Says the person posting in a thread about 80 year old superheroes that thrive on nostalgia. (I assume you didn't discover these characters when you were 30?)

Are you kidding me? This is your response? This is your excuse for Danny Elfman to use a 29 year old movie score in a current film?

^Or his 1989 Batman theme.
Its funny that you mention that because in the article he says this about him and Whedon:
There was a moment where the Batmobile shoots out of a thing and he goes, “Go batshit crazy here! Batman the shit out of it!” When I’m using the Batman theme, I’m using the melodic sense of it, I’m wasn’t doing full-on Batman, and there’s a moment when he says, “No, right here, Full on!”

I took it from this article but I interpret that to mean Whedon persuaded him to use his Batman theme.

I now see what the problem is in regard to pop culture today. Just reading these comments made me finally see the light. I don't know what it is about today's society, but it seems that the public is more willing to embrace the familiar, the conservative and nostalgia in culture - including pop culture - than give anything new or challenging a chance. It seems as if everyone wants Marvel to continue its current rut of following its formula and they want the D.C. Comics movies to regress to the past. And Warner Bros. is planning to give the audiences what they want, just as Marvel has been doing.

I don't think anyone asked for Shazam!, or Aquaman even for that matter ;)

From what's been announced so far, and the people behind them, it looks like we'll be getting a rather diverse (if slightly too-Gothamy) crop of movies with different sensibilities and visions, so I can't say I see where you're coming from...

Here's a long analysis of the state of play at WB/DC, with reference to their comic, TV, gaming and, mainly, cinematic output. Loses points from me for referring to Superman both "murdering" and "executing" Zod in MOS (I didn't like the scene but he killed Zod in defence of another during the heat of battle - it was neither a murder or an execution). But otherwise a reasonably good read. http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/dc-wonder-woman-movie-strategy-universe.html

Yes. Welcome to modern movie making. When movie studios are investing hundreds of millions of dollars and employing thousands of people, they will play it safe almost every time. It's the same reason they brought JJ Abrams back for Star Wars 9, they were protecting their investment.
