Theories that were Bunk

That the pilot would be so bad and bomb that the network wouldn't renew STD for a 2nd season. I'll admit I was intrigued by this story from Midnights Edge, but I still like them even though this didn't happen. I don't think they lost credibility. Who knows, CBS could have called in a Tony Gilroy-type to clean up the mess.

With Trek tech, you would assume they could do a total gender change. One would hope so in any case.
A trans person's gender does not change, they were always the gender they identify as.

Also I'd never want to see a cis person play a trans person on Star Trek or any other form of media in the future. It takes opportunities from actual trans people.

I would like to see a trans character...

Given the state and quality of medical technology in the 23rd century and beyond, you would never know unless you did a full genetic scan, and even that may not be all that revealing. They would be physically indistinguishable from any other male or female.

Look at Klyden in Orville, there are no indications whatsoever that he was born female.

There are some issues there
1: Women are in fact named Micheal
2: Trans women do not normally keep their old male names

...But but...If women are in fact called Michael, and a biologically male-born person named Michael becomes female, and they want to take a female name, then why can't that female name be Michael?

[so confused, I blow up like android Norman and computer-Landru].

Wasn’t there a 5 year war referenced?

Not in TOS canon. The FASA role-playing games invented a "Four Years War" surrounding the battle of Donatu V, and that became so heavily featured in games and fanfic that some people mistakenly assume it's canonical, but it isn't. The only Federation-Klingon war ever referenced in TOS canon was the one that began and ended in "Errand of Mercy."

Something detectable by a Union physician when he was medically cleared as a family member traveling with Bortus on his assignment. Probably genetic.

Funny thing is- I haven't seen anything I'd consider "PC" or "anti-Trump" yet. Like...even if I squint I can't find it.

Having a black female lead character isn't enough? And T'Kuvma is pretty clearly a surrogate for political demagogues using rhetoric of racial purity and hostility toward foreigners to mobilize their base. Although it's not exclusively about Trump, since he's also got a religious cult-leader thing going on, all but calling himself the reincarnation of Kahless.

True, but I meant outwardly visible indications; physical attributes that hint at his transformation from one gender to another. But yeah, in the Orville universe, it is medically detectable.. nonetheless, those of us on the couch watching can't detect those things.

Most trans men and women are indistinguishable with cis men and women now. Most of the public's awareness of trans people is based on media where trans women are played by cis men, which is deeply offensive and ends up getting trans women murdered.

I hate the idea that this reasoning would be an excuse to just cast a cis women to play a trans woman and pushes the idea that all women are supposed to look exactly the same.
