If you do a war then doesn't Pike and the Enterprise have to show up?

Makes me wonder how many ships they even have in the fleet. I got to imagine the number of ships they have is much smaller than you see in the 24th century so wouldn't that increase the odd's of seeing the same ships since you only got a select few to choose from for missions? Of course for me the most sense would be to have the Enterprise guardian Earth or Vulcan or some of your more important worlds.

Jason
You also have to wonder just what sort of state the other ships are in. As we saw in Enterprise and even in TNG/DS9/Voyager, older models like the Daedalus class, and the Excelsior class, once they get going, Starfleet tends to pump them out, and even with upgrades every few years, those ships are still no contest to newer designs like the Constitution class or the Galaxy and Sovereign classes (of course the Sovereign was designed to battle the Borg). Who knows, we might see fleets of an upgraded version of the NX class (like the Columbia class).

Just saying I've been seeing a lot of people who liked the show but don't like CBS All Access and can understand why somebody wouldn't want to subscribe short of being given a very good reason to do so.

I always hate when people say "I have a friend who..." but I'm about to do it anyway. Haha!

I have several friends and family who range from extremely casual fans to long-time devotees like myself.

All are happy with the product so far, and all have subscribed to the service.

This is an equally telling data point as any contrary data point may be. I could actually argue that in many ways it is a more valid data point given that these are unbiased reactions, and not somebody on the Internet who has an agenda or a extremely strong bias.

I just think it's too early to say much of anything. Well know more at the mid-season break probably.

Lorca: "We'll rendezvous with the Enterprise and the Yosemite at Wolf 359. Hmm... Burnham, didn't you serve on the Enterprise?"

Burnham: "Briefly, three years ago when the Shenzhou was undergoing repairs. Her Captain isn't very war-ready, but it's a good crew. My brother's the science officer now. The mission was classified, but it was interesting."

Lt. "Ash" Tyler: "I was there too."

Something dreadful like that might actually be done. Except the war-ready part. I doubt they end up naming the medal of honor after him because of how unready he was for battle.

I would rather it be to Pike's Enterprise that Burnham goes from her incarceration, rather than the Discovery. Dealing with Spock would be an interesting added dimension for her return to a starship. What's their relationship now? What was it before? I don't see what Discovery gives you that Enterprise doesn't other than that the middle aged brunette white male Captains name is Lorca, instead of Pike, and the ship design is suckier than the Constitution class. And getting a chance to see a version of the show we almost got originally would be interesting. Alas.

Probably because they need a ship they could blow up at the end of the series without causing problems. Can't well blow up the Enterprise.....again, before she's due for her explosion time.

Nah, they can bring in Pike's USS Enterprise NCC-701 and blow it up, then replace it with the NCC-1701 if they wanted. Would not be the first time they've shoehorned another Starship Enterprise into the continuity.

BURNHAM: "It's truly remarkable that there were 1700 USS Enterprises in service prior to this one."
LORCA: "What if I told you... there were 1701?"

I think if Season 1 doesn't get the results CBS wants.... A Spock appearance in S2 to boost interest in STD will be inevitable.

Spock doesn't exist in this timeline.

End of season one, Burnham will put time right, where her kibdy self dies, and Spock lives, but her adult self carries on as a time orphan (time remnant) which is about when we figure out that Lorca works for temporal investigations and stubbornly ignores universal resets whenever they happen to time.

Whether it's done well or not, and who's cast in the roles, I'm positive we'll get the Enterprise with Pike, Female No. 1, and Spock as a ratings ploy. It's probably inevitable unless the series dies an early death, which I doubt. If they do that, we must have the cute redhead back. That's just a must. LOL

Yeoman J .M Colt?

There was a cute red head on the bridge of the Shenzou (Keyla Detmer), and a cute red head on the Discovery (Cadet Sylvia Tilly)

Briefly I thought that one of these women might be Colt, before I found Tilly's christian name.

:(

Don't see why it would need mentioning, after all in a war their could be several fronts to the battle esp in a 3D space. The Enerprise is simple elsewhere.

TBH, I don't think the network or producers will care about Pike and crew.... just Spock.

Spock alone would bring in the boost they want.

Guaranteed they'll start to introduce Spock by showing us 'Kid Spock' in Burham flashbacks. Also as a viewership ploy.

There were Federation-Cardassian Wars that the Enterprise-D never showed up for.
There was a huge Dominion War that involved all major powers of the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants but not the Enterprise-E.

Maybe this contributes to a canonical event? Getting word of Burnham's court martial and imprisonment is why Spock was yelling!

To nitpick, we know the E-D actually stayed away from those older Border Wars because O'Brien is their only expert on those in "The Wounded", out of a crew that was there from Day One. We don't know that the E-E stayed away from the Dominion War.

We never saw the old war, either, so we totally failed to not see the E-D there, which is different from us not seeing the E-E in the Dominion war which we did see...

Finally, the last fighting we hear of in the Cardassian War is in 2362, at Second Setlik. The E-D was launched in 2363 or thereabouts, and thus can plead Not Fair there.

Actually it might not be 'shoehorning at all because remember: Pik's 1701 only held a crew of 203 (per either TOS - "The Gage"/TOS- "The Menagerie"); yet in Kirk's era 10 years from 'now' ;); his 1701 holds a crew of 430.
^^^
Maybe there's a reson for that and it wasn't just a 'refit' that most fans assume was the reason for said increase.:angel:
