Terminator VI

I disagree. Marcus doing a Face/Off remake with John Connor and then killing every main character is something I'm personally glad we avoided. That's not to say that the ending we got isn't weak shit.

Was that the original ending?
That's even for a Terminator a harsh ending

Seriously they should just stop. The franchise is dead and every movie after T2 has either been a rehash or a failure and usually both at the same time. Hell, even T2 was a bit of a remake of T1, but it added a definite ending to the mythology and the world avoiding the judgment day. There's really nothing interesting to add to that and we have already seen this three times.

Completely setting aside whether or not what came after it is good or not. I think in a way it kind of ruins T2 when they keep going back to trying to stop the rise of Skynet. The end of T2 was a nice definitive ending, and the hoops the keep having to go through to cancel it out is kind of getting ridiculous.
I actually really liked Salvation, and I especially liked the fact that it was set entirely in the future.

T2 should have been the ending, with a future movie (with no timey whimeyness and nothing like Salvation) where you see all of the events that lead to sending back Reese in T1, then Arnie in T2 to save the day. The ending of T3 could be a flashback from the future movie. It would be a trilogy that makes sense. Salvation missed the mark more then T3. T3 should have been the "before T2" timeline that leads to the future, and we really didn't need to have an entire movie about that.

There was more to it, but yeah.

"Project Angel" was removed from the film, which was where Skynet was revealed to be "saving" humanity by building a secret utopia where only hybrids like Marcus would live. The entire finale scene between Marcus and Skynet (Helena Bonham Carter) was reshot as she was originally physically in the room with him as another hybrid.

Blah blah blah, John is fatally wounded and they all escape the facility as in the film. Marcus convinces them that John is too important to die, so they should let him swap places with John to keep that symbol alive. They all agree, so they slice off John's face and slap it on Marcus...when it's all done he sits up and looks around the room at Katherine, Kyle, Star, Blair, and Barnes. He then whips out a gun and shoots them all dead. End of film.

Huh. If you take out the very last two sentences of your post, I could totally get behind that ending. Especially given that Skynet has now basically become inevitable in the films, where nothing they ever do is enough to stop it's creation, it would be kind of interesting to see "John" develop in such a way, of similar inevitability. Even killing him can't stop the symbol. And the irony of a machine John Conner leading the human resistance to victory is somewhat delicious, and fits the repeated idea of terminators becoming heroes (outside the first film, obviously) to the humans they were meant to hunt.

Ultimately though,, those last two sentences kill the whole thing. I'd rather the ending we got than that.

Linda Hamilton hasn't even aged badly at all. She looks perfecly fine, for a sixty-year old. No, she isn't one of those rare genetic freaks who still look 20 years younger than they are - but most people aren't.

Meanwhile Harrison Ford is pushing eighty, starting to look borderline skeletal, and people are still pushing for him to reprise his (very action heavy) famous roles again.

Yes. Even James Cameron has commented on this double standard in recent interviews, and said he wanted to change it (which actually surprised me). All I know is...if anyone expects me to believe that senior citizen Arnie is capable of being an action hero (hahaha!) I better see an older woman in a strong female role.

We don't disappear after we turn 40, and old men aren't as capable as young men in action roles (much as media types would really love for audiences to believe...well, fewer of us are driving that particular Kool-Aide, thank you very much).

Anyway, that rant aside, I think there is still plenty of story left to tell and I'll be interested in finding out where it goes.

Jackie Chan is like 65 and has a very fun looking action movie coming out. So yeah age isn't important, but there just isn't a point to another Terminator movie (or three... satan help us.)

Also the name of this topic should be Terminator: The Wrath of Cameron.

Still better than Terminator Genisys where Skynet is a downloadable app for your phone. And Terminator John Connor’s motive/plan is to live together with mommy Sarah Connor and daddy Kyle Reese as one happy family! And don’t get me started on Jai Courtney's and Emilia Clarke's performances... :barf:

That's what I've been saying. I think that when they keep going back to T2 events, it ends up undermining T2. I get it, T2 is a popular movie, so why not revisit its events? That's probably how the suits are thinking. But if Genesys is any indication, it's a terrible idea. It needed a T2 crutch and it still bombed. And if T2 is such a great movie, why? Move forward and tell new stories within the universe.

As for Salvation, I actually really liked that the main character was Reese that time around. If anything, it gave us a different point of view of Connor and allowed the movie to explore things from a different angle. I thought it made John more interesting.

I have no problem imaging all of the movies after Judgment Day as part of another universe or universes (can't say about the series since I never watched it). No big deal.

You really should check out The Sarah Connor Chronicles, it's one of the best parts of the franchise.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. Just never got around to it and now I'm watching far too many shows.

Did it end on a cliffhanger was there some kind of closure?

Depends on who you ask. I've seen some people argue that it was an ending...but IMO it's absolutely not, it's a cliffhanger in almost every way.
