Things you HATED about this show. As much as there are positives about STD there is much CRINGE!

Yeah guys tone it down on the Mary Sue stuff. Makes you sound like a loser neckbeard living in moms basement with whom no women want to procreate with.

Mary Sue is supposed to mean a female character is "overpowered"

The only character you can begin to level Mary Sue accusations at in recent mainstream scifi is Rey from Force Awakens... even then it may not be warranted because she has amnesia and was a Jedi trainee in her youth / has Skywalker or Kenobi genes

I didn't see Burnham doing anything "overpowered" in this show. She did a nerve pinch (which I have learned is canon for non Vulcans to perform).

What exactly IS the Vulcan nerve pinch? Is it some kind of Krav Maga-like move that targets a pressure point with physical pressure?

I was under the impression that it was generally a Vulcan biological trick and imparted some kind of psychic energy
 
My biggest cringe is: Sarek, why oh why does it have to be Sarek that raised the Main character? It reminds me of SW EPIII when you saw a YT-100 freighter sitting in the spaceport in one scene, and the Lucas had to say "Yep, that's the Millenium Falcon" like it couldn't be any one of 1000's of other identical ships of that type in the central HUB OF THE GALAXY, it HAD TO be the Falcon, even though it adds nothing to the story. Why not have her Vulcan "Father" be another Vulcan? I just don't understand why it HAD TO be Sarek, because of the can of storytelling worms it will open (that the writers might just shrug at), maybe we will get a good story from it, but Sarek already seems to be kinder to her then he ever was to Spock.

Because if it's Sarek it's much more Star Trekish. Which is one of my beefs with this show so far, they're trying to damn hard to BE Star Trek instead of just telling us a story.
 
Dislike: Subscription with commercials. Make it free with commercials, paid with none - no tiers.

Like: DVD/BDs when they come out, because that's they only way I'll watch so long as we are required to pay for commercials.
 
I didn't like how much CG was in the readyroom and the Emperor Palpatine holo communicator...

I paid to have no commercials. Still cheaper than BD.
 
Absolutely hate the Klingon look (purple!!!!!), the way they speak etc. I miss Klingons like Worf and Martok.
Don't like the lens flares.
But otherwise fine - not something I immediately fell in love with but I'll give it a chance.

Mary Sue (which can also be "Marty Stu" in the case of male characters) is a character who is an author self-insert. He/she is essentially the author projecting their wildest fantasies of living in a particular universe onto one character. By that definition, Michael is very much a Mary Sue. The non-stop ego stroking and validation she receives (from Georgiou, Sarek, and Saru) is just one aspect of her Mary Sueishness. There's also the fact that she is the driving force in nearly the entire plot. SHE demands to fire on the Klingons - naturally her life experience is more valuable than her captain's 30 years of command, right? When she doesn't get her way, SHE seizes command of the ship. And of course her point of view turns out to be correct, how could she be wrong? SHE demands to pilot the worker bee. SHE insists on capturing T'Kuvma instead of killing him. The Mary Sue character must be the center of the universe at all times, because again, she is the personification of a writer's fantasy of serving on a Federation starship. Being a lower-ranking officer is boring, so naturally the Mary Sue character is smarter than her superiors and always knows the correct course of action, and other characters yield to her superior judgement. Then, at the end of the episode, she faces the "consequences" of her actions - which consist of losing her friend and captain, whose meaningless death acts as a motivation for Mary Sue to continue her profound quest to Find Herself and discover her individuality. And then she is imprisoned until the start of the next episode when her Superior Intelligence is needed yet again for another mission.
 
I do not like the new Klingon makeup. The ornate ceremonial uniforms and costumes I'm fine with. Klingons have different clothing styles across the width and breadth of the franchise so that's no big deal. But the makeup and the mangled way the actors spat out the dialogue (almost all of it in Klingon) were just annoying and distracting from the pace of the story.
 
I don't like that Admiral Anderson wasn't played by Keith David.

I don't like that they didn't just steal Voyager's theme music inexplicably.

I don't like how Georgiou found it hard to believe Burnham had been serving with her for seven years. She's the captain, not the viewership.

I don't like whoever chose to put cotton balls in Chris Obi's mouth. I really don't like whoever decided to put even more cotton balls in Chris Obi's mouth.

I don't like that the resolution for my stream seemed a bit substandard. Compressed, really. I'd like to see that remedied, even if it's my fault.

I don't like that the captions on the PS4 app were literally halfway off the screen. Like, oh, good, I'm glad the extra-dimensional entities in my apartment can see what's being said now, too.

I don't like the cut of Kol's jib. Which is closet praise because I want to see more of Kol and his unlikable jib.

I don't like the lack of Robau. Where is Robau? Is Star Trek too good for him now? In the bid to chase a larger audience, are we going to abandon the spirit of what made it pure in the first place? Robau's vision doesn't mean a thing to you people?

I don't like that I failed to find Georgiou's Chateau Picard wine either time I watched.
 
Even the Ferengi pirates in "Acquisition(ENT)" spoke entirely in Ferengi until they interrogated Archer. At that point they used their universal translator to try to communicate with him and the dialogue switched from Ferengi to English mid-sentence.
