If Spock makes a cameo in this, should they use Zachary Quinto?

I think they could use Quinto, Nimoy was 34 when he played Spock in The Cage, and age on screen, especially under heavy make-up, is easily vague enough to cover the difference between Nimoy-Spock's age in this time frame and Quinto's current IRL age - look at the actors who portray 'teenagers' on the CW  . Quinto is such a good Spock that I think it would be a shame to recast again. I don't buy the 'they look different because it's an alternate timeline' anyway, they just recast the roles. Just like Tom Hardy doesn't look like the guy who played Ensign Picard in Tapestry.
Yep. Quinto's good and I'm not in favour of repeated recastings if avoidable - it just strains credibility a bit far.

I would say yes, but even moreso, hope to see Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike!
But similarly, wouldn't Greenwood be too old to play Pike at the age he was back then? Going in the other direction, however, it wouldn't be a problem for Jolene Blalock to reprise T'Pol if they decided to bring her back for a guest appearance. The character would be older by this point, and certainly still alive, I would think.

I mean, this is star trek, Quinto's age doesn't matter since he could always come on the show as a time traveler.

Oh I'm all in for Blalock. But she hasn't worked in three years. I don't even know if she's still acting.

If they do the whole actor playing their character's ancestor thing, I'm really hoping to see Kate. But in a role more akin to Red -- like a Janeway black sheep who's a rival to Mudd.

Greenwood and Quinto are definitely too old for their respective roles. Greenwood especially.

Pike looked young in The Cage. Anson Mount would be a better fit for Jeffrey Hunter Pike.

But recasting 20-something Spock and Kirk could be very tricky. Hard to find actors that resemble Nimoy and Shatner.

I don't think Quinto is too old, he looks great for his age and they can make up the shit out of him.

Greenwood, even though he was great in the new movies, is definitely too old.

Bollocks on all that: who plays Majel's all important role of Number One?
Actually, this is a good point, even if it was made in jest. The people we see the Discovery crew interact with on the Enterprise should be Pike and his XO. Spock might be most realistically seen as an unnamed Vulcan who steps onto the bridge and goes to his console without dialog.

But Spock is more important to Micheal's story. In fact I can't help but wonder if there's a little latent jealousy or resentment on Spock's part since the show suggests Sarek is closer to Micheal than he ever was Spock. There's story potential there. Which is why I think it's likely we'll run into him eventually, even if we never see the Enterprise.

Seems awkward to recast Sarek from the 2009 movie, but keep the same Spock actor. Especially since Amanda is next to show up on STD, and she definitely won't be Winona Rider.

It's less confusing to just have a new actor play Spock in the Discovery-verse.

They said in the press junket, Amanda is likely the next mythology character to appear.

Makes sense since the Burham flashbacks will continue.

Season 2 of Stranger Things comes out in a month ;)
Yup. She already works for Netflix.

It's impossible to know the terms of her contract. But assuming they could work something on the (relatively) cheap end, Netflix might nudge CBS to use her.

I can see where Amanda could end up being a significant player in the story, so it seems to reason they'd want to add some name weight to the character.
