CBS All Access Troubleshooting Thread

The CBSAA faq page states this:

Why do I get an error message saying the video is unavailable or may have expired?

Some videos have a limited shelf life and will expire from the site after a period of time. Once the video has expired, it will no longer be available on our website for viewing. Videos will also expire once it’s paused with no attempted playback after several hours. You may need to try refreshing the page to see if the video replays again.

Fun stuff!! :barf:

The second half of part 2 turned out much better. I didn't have any buffering problems. I think it was just at bandwidth overload for a while.

It won't let me complete registration. Admittedly, I'm a procrastinator who waited until ten minutes ago, but I've tried five different ways of signing up (Facebook, Twitter, Google, traditional e-mail), and they all lead to the same "Please complete your registration" page where nothing happens when I click Continue.

I really, really, really, don't want to register on my phone.

EDIT: Nm, I got it. Just slow, I guess.

It worked fine for me, except one minor glitch for a few minutes during the 'live' portion where it buffered and then was at low resolution for a bit.

When I connected my MacBook Pro to the TV (via HDMI), my alert sounds went to the TV, but not my All-Access audio. It came out of the computer.

Worked for me on Roku 2. Watched the teaser and credit sequence on live stream then switched to the on-demand episode.

The Lincoln ad was really low-bitrate when it showed the car driving away in the night but everything else looked great.

That said, delaying the on-demand based on a live TV schedule is straight-up bullshit.

Not exactly troubleshooting, but I poked around on their other Trek and was shocked to see that they have the original SD versions of TNG. How is that possible??? If anyone should have the best versions, you would expect it to be CBSAA.

Not that it's an actual problem, I can stick to Netflix for my TNG needs, it just seems weird.

Got it this morning and not able to stream at all on my laptop with Chrome. I tried two other streaming services and they both work fine.

Found out what it was. I messed with my Disconnect plugin and it works fine now. They don't like it when you block Google.

So does All Access not have a phone app?

I can play NetFlix, Hulu, HBOGO, etc via Chromecast through their apps. I gotta use the Chrome browser for this show?

I don't mind paying for CBSAA while DSC is on, but I can't believe they only stream in stereo! I checked the old series and was surprised they only stream stereo, but I assumed that a new, high-profile show like DSC would be streamed in some form of multi-channel audio.

Is anyone one else using CBSAA and getting multi-channel audio? If so, what device are you streaming with?

Had some occasional buffering problems when I was watching it yesterday. It got much, much better when I rewatched a bit during off-peak hours. Hopefully they manage to smooth things out for future episodes.

Then again, I guess it's possible that the problem was with my chromecast. Otherwise, thankfully no issues.

Watched the second ep late in the evening.

Tablet - couldn't get it to work. Turns out that is my fault. I have to install an app.
Windows 10 laptop - no go. No idea why.

So I figure I'm hosed as my desktop is old and runs Window 7 and the CBS site says Windows 10.

But it worked on that. LOL.

Also, anyone else watch with the CC on? I can hear, so I don't need it, I just prefer to watch most TV with it on so that I don't miss anything (huh, maybe that's why I have no complaints about the Klingon subtitles, as many others did), and it was doing this weird thing where every 4th or 5th line would not appear in CC. Wondering if anyone else had the same issue...

I too can hear but prefer to watch with closed captioning on. Upon confirming that there were no "f-bombs" nor extreme graphic violence in the first two episodes, I watched them back-to-back tonight, and yeah, the closed captioning was definitely off. Every fifth line or so was completely omitted. Hopefully CBS will both get better at that and fix it.

Also, for those wondering, I'm subscribed to the commercial-free tier, and there were no commercials at all before, during, or after the two episodes. Well, not unless you count the season preview at the end of the second episode as a commercial. :nyah:

Turns out the Windows 10 needs the app too. Not sure why, as my regular desktop didn't. After a long fight and many curse words (the stupid Microsoft store didn't want to download properly, $*#@ POS!), I got it going. So yay.

One last thing - to try to sharecast it to my TV so I can watch on a big screen. Tonight = fail. But it's late (it was earlier when I was doing it but still late) and brain brokey late at night. So I'll try again tomorrow. For some reason, I'm not as good on a smart TV as I am on other gadgets. Need to remedy that.

And, if you're wondering, the not-commercial-free tier has plenty of commercials. I'd forgotten how annoying and immersion-breaking those things can be.

It took all of five minutes to figure out how to do the Chromecast today. Pays to do so when NOT tired. So next week, Star Trek on the big TV, not my tablet. :)

Jeez though, these days one has to be technically proficient to watch a show. In the old days, you got up and switched on the TV and that was it. [/damn, I'm old]

CBSAA is now consolidated with the regular CBS app. I have the CBS one on my phone, and the All Access shows are now via the regular CBS app.
