Spoilers STD 1x03 Preview [and for the rest of the season]

I absolutely love this trailer. It's possible that I love it more than tonight's episodes. It fills me with thrills but feels like Trek.

Yes, we're in a dark place right now. This is the story of how we rise above it. The world needs those kinds of stories right now, populated with characters who want good things.

NC represent!

Yeah, this trailer has me jonesing for the rest of the series in ways I didn't know I had.

Problem is - that really isn't just a preview for the next episode per se - it really looks like an overview of the remaining 13 episodes of the season.

Better question. How long is it between the first stardate mentioned and the day she arrives on USS Discovery? How long has the war been going on at that point?

Looks great. Could swear I just saw Burnham & a guy behind her wearing Mirror Universe Terran uniforms  at 1:31, they're not, but man they had me for a moment there.

Pretty much this. I don't get BSG from that at all. I get 'this is how we rise above rather than wallow in self pity'. I like the 'war's effect on the little guy' thing. I like the implication that Burnham's rehabilitation won't be a Tom Paris overnight job. I like that we seem to have another female captain/leader to interact with. Yes there's a lot of combat in it, but there was in the trailers for the pilot, too, and actually that was maybe 10% of the episode.

We know what that yellow top was all about now too...

I'm still trying to figured out what exactly it is she's rehabilitating from - besides self-pity. She was in the brig when the shit went down.

I'm not completely sold on the 'her mutiny started the war' thing. She made a target lock on the Klingon ship, certainly, but Georgiou had already done that earlier on, on the torch thingy. I think it would have been much more impactive if she had caused the ship to fire. Presumably, we are supposed to infer that to her (and probably to others) if she had acted differently, the situation would have not spiralled out of control. There is some reality to the idea that the general belief about an event is not actually accurate, or relies heavily on assumption. Essentially, we are seeing a public hate figure, vilified in the court of public opinion as much as by the facts.

Oh I dementedly believe there's more to the story. I actually think the reason the public blames her is because Saru blamed her and it will be a point of contention. "On my planet, you're either predictor or prey and my species is prey - but our duplicity knows no bounds."

She didn't start the war... No.

Burham didn't start the battle, but she killed that Sentry, and then she Killed T'Kuvma, the person she said MUST NOT DIE or he'll turn into a martyr... Did the red light on her phaser mean that it is set to kill? Did her pistol switch between blue and red? Did Michael not notice the impact of dropping her phaser switching off her safety?

This.

Honestly, though, there are some things I really like in this trailer that I wish there were more evidence of in what we've seen so far.

Oh, BTW, I'm completely sold now on Harry Mudd. His moment here is awesome.

I'm definitely more open to the idea having seen that, yes. I'd still rather it was Joe Bloggs the new character, but I think I'll like this new version. And the whole prison thing means his being introduced seems to make a lot more sense.

I love Wilson. He makes OfficeUS watchable. It's hard for me to get through most of it because I think Carell is that overly obnoxious sort of unfunny.

Very cool preview! Like the direction this is going. Seems like they won't brush away what happened in the premiere in the span of one episode, it has lasting ramifications. It has the effect of making the first two episodes look like a mere prologue to the actual story the show wants to tell.

It looks like Lorca will be less of the rogue Starfleet captain I thought he would be and more of a man who just does things differently and is willing to give Burnham a second chance. Also, does it look like Lorca will end up being a prisoner of the Klingons, all Archer-style?

Did anyone else notice that Michael wears the black Starfleet insignia on her mustard suit. Like the ones we were seeing in the costumes featurette. Interesting.

Oh, and: They are hiding the ship! :shifty:

Here's a random trivia fact. The Netflix episodes come with Klingon subtitles.
Yeah, my wife just tweeted me exactly the same thing.
