Because usually the (paper) books start to appear in bookstores and are available online at least 2 weeks before their release date?

Really? I had no idea, especially with Trek related stuff, I thought they kept that locked down pretty tightly until the premiere episode.

So, is this book available yet in any form? I'd like to read it before the series starts.

Haven't seen it anywhere yet, or heard that someone found it .

What I said is what was true for pretty much every paperback Trek book for at least the last decade or so, but I already mentioned the possibility that they would be more strict with this one in my OP:

Not sure if Pocket/Gallery will be more strict with book stores adhering to the street date with this one to not have it be out before the pilot airs, but since David Mack got his author copies I figured it is time for the review thread.

But since David got his author copies (which sometimes reached the authors after the first books had been spotted in the wild), I figured there at least is a chance that Desperate Hours wouldn't fall under some kind of special rule re: sales date.

The bad thing about starting a review thread weeks before a book comes out is having to wade through the multiple pages of non-review posts before the actual reviews show up.
Yes, but the thread was started on September 9th, with a poll no less, about a book that was over 2 weeks away from being released. I guess my question would be why not wait until the book is actually released before starting a poll and spoiler thread about it?
Seriously? Review threads have started for novels a couple weeks prior to releases for years around here, and you're only complaining now?

I tend to put my pre-orders in exactly two weeks prior to the release date, and often I get shipping confirmation the day after. Granted, this doesn't always happen, and indeed I do not currently have shipping confirmation for this novel or Original Sin, but there is enough precedent to justify starting these threads a fortnight early.

My impression was that the general practice was to start the review thread once someone had seen the book in the wild. Starting one off the author getting their comp'd copies seemed a little early but, honestly, TBBS is going to be completely nuts after the 24th, so two or three pages of preamble in the DH thread is hardly going to be a blip.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did end up keeping this one on hold until the actual release date. They seem to be keeping a pretty tight lid on anything even slightly spoilery, hence no early reviews, and David Mack did say this one has a few minor spoilers.

I've been looking forward to reading this book soon. And I like reading the backstory of new characters from a brand new tv series.

I wonder if there's a chance this one might actually pop up in Wal-Mart and places like that? They seem to be really wanting Discovery to be a big deal, and the store I work at does tend to get the books that tie into the big TV and movie releases.

David, did you get a chance to go to the premiere?
Sounds like everybody who saw Discovery really enjoyed it!

This one is definitely looking to be held til pick up day. I found several stores around the Dallas area saying they have it but then says will be available for pick up September 26
