Very lucky to be able to attend. Tremendous showing of support from CBS with a number of older series regulars attending including Shatner, Nichols, Frakes and more. Many production people as well. The two-parter was shown.

The crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration of Star Trek ... regardless it was extremely well received. Gorgeous. Interesting. Enough meat to start a debate. Some fireworks. Really interesting start.

Blew Orville out of the sky IMHO.

I can’t say that All-Access is a good idea but this looks to be a show worth watching.

I hate you :nyah: [Because I would have loved to go - the Arclight is just down the 101 Fwy a few miles from me :wah:]

And YES (just in case) -- I'm kidding about the 'hate you' part. ;)

Wow, the level of jealousy on my part is off the charts.... :)
Can you tell us where you would rate the first ep amongst the other Trek first eps?

Oh, you're such a tease! I'm glad you were enjoying it. :techman:

can you say if its a reboot or not?
It's a reboot as much as The Next Generation was a reboot. Or The Motion Picture. It's a reboot in the sense that it restarts the franchise (on television, that is) and that it reimagines the visuals as well as (I'd imagine) some of the continuity touchpoints.

Glad you got to go see this and enjoy. The feed from twitter has been super positive and there have been some great pics

It is a visual reboot and updating like TMP and TNG, but we have known for well over a year its prime timeline. The very same reality as the 1966 TOS. You guys can keep asking this but that will keep being the answer for the 1000th time.

That is not the only
Definition of good

Of course there are all kinds of definitions of "good"... just as there are all kinds of definitions of "better."

If characters say and do things in Discovery that are completely unexpected for Star Trek characters and don't carry on like they're curing brain cancer the show would have a shot at being really entertaining.

I'll be honest, I did not truly expect all the positive reactions last night. I figured there would be a few who weren't so pleased. Considering that it seems like people are much quicker to tweet when they dislike something or were disappointed by it, I fully expected a few tweets like "Trekkies aren't gonna like what I have to say about it" or "well, that was two hours of my life I'll never get back" or something.

To be honest, I think these immediate reactions tell us more than a slew of professional reviews would have. I'm trying to put into words why that is...it feels like these reactions are authentic while a lot of reviews feel manufactured. There, that's what I'm trying to say.

Agreed. Only negarive impression I've seen is some guy on reddit but in his impressions ranted a bit about how trek hasn't been good since TOS and is too PC and in comments even tried to claim TOS Andorians were not blue. Sounds like he wants just an episodic wild west show. I doubt he even actually went but even if so his comments about trek in general in his post made me discount his opinions.

^^^ We probably WILL hear a few negative reviews from reasonable "non-ranters" who did attend the premiere...
...It's only natural, since tastes vary greatly, especially in even what reasonable people expect from a Trek show.
