Attended the premiere - no spoilers

What does one have to do with the other?

That's like saying First Contact was better than Galaxy Quest.

They’re essentially competing for viewers. So it matters for viewership and economics. And critical press. IMHO Discovery is far better.[/QUOTE]
I don't get why they're competing for viewers. People aren't allowed to watch both? Heaven forbid that time when people watched a number of shows in the same genre over the course of a week...

I'm sure you're right. A guy on Facebook said he sat next to a guy who was already dumping on it before it began and afterward was crowing "see, I was right, it's terrible", prompting eyerolls from everyone around him.
...
I find it so uncouth when people do stuff like that in the theater. :wtf:
Why can't people be more classy and dignified at an event?

My question to the OP is (if you are able to answer without giving away anything)... what kind of content warranted the more restrictive TV-MA rating?

There’s no reason they need to compete though. People can choose to watch both. I finally got around to watching episode 2 of The Orville last night. I’ll admit, there’s still something that’s not gelling 100% with me on that series, but I do find it entertaining.

Just because the TOS Enterprise gang didn't know what a tribble was doesn't mean that nobody in the Federation knew what a tribble was.

But it's an introduction for the audience as well. One rendered unnecessary by showing tribbles before hand. Like Enterprise showing Romulans destroys their introduction in "The Balance of Terror" or showing Anakin and Darth vader as the same person in the prequels ruins the reveal in "The Empire Strikes Back."

What pisses me off is that the person got a ticket to the premiere, already sold on not liking it, when there are plenty of fans who would have killed to be there!

Another person replied to that comment saying that when he went to see Wonder Woman, there was a guy sitting in front of him who spent the entire time talking about how certain he was that the film would suck. When it was over, he said "See, I knew they'd ruin it". We're talking about one of the best-reviewed and highest grossing movies of the year, here.

As far as I'm concerned, ENT was always meant to be watched after you were already familiar with everything else. Same goes for Discovery. I recently re-watched the entire franchise with my wife, who had only seen a few episodes of TNG before. I absolutely started at TOS, beginning at the actual beginning.

LOL nobody watches the Star Wars movies in order. It's 4-5-6-, 1-2-3.

(I'm aware of silly alternate orders, that's not the point)

I don't think they would be competing at all. A drama and a comedy are not in competition with each other

That's probaly one of the video bloggers who -- upon seeing the first trailer with the title cards that read "Before Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise" -- exclaimed (and I'm paraphrasing, but not by much):

OMG -- The makers of Discovery don't even know that Spock was already on the Enterprise ten years before TOS!!! If they got that wrong, then there is no hope that they will get anything right!

I remember watching that one and wanting to reach through the screen and smack him in the head! He kept repeating it!

LOL! Talk about reading too much into a simple promo....

Is that the guy who looks like a 70-year-old trucker who's usually outside and I think calls himself Captain April?
