Discovery and "The Orville" Comparisons

Personally, I find the Orville to be as bland as day old oatmeal.

The humor feels forced, and most of it juvenile.
The stories have little depth.
And the characters have not been memorable.

But it's still early, so I'll continue to watch and hope they improve on what they have.

Gee sounds almost exactly like TNG Season one. ;)

That's a funny "criticism."
Maybe he left out the word "mildly".

I have already said that The Orville is ""mildly entertaining"...i.e., it doesn't offend my sensibilities, and I can find myself moderately amused by it and can catch myself being interested in it at times, but so far there is nothing about it that I would miss if it suddenly were no longer an entertainment option for me.

I think the words I used, which bear repeating here, were "it doesn't suck, which I suppose is something."

Having said that, I think it does have more potential than it so far has shown.

Just saw in the preview for episode 3 it is moving to Thursday night?? Is that still a heavy competition night in the states?

It will have Gotham as a lead in, so that's possibly a plus. But I think it's biggest competition will be Thursday Night Football.

So Discovery and Orville are battling to the death, Discovery is stepping on Orville's throat but Seth McFarlane croaks out "Martha!" and Soneqa Martin-Green starts yelling "Why are you saying that name?!?" and they end up best friends and form the Justice League.

Well to be honest - Discovery hasn't shown up yet and Orville will get 3 licks in before it does. That said, the 'fight' ain't over yet. ;)

Nothing in the DSC trailers has excited me to date, and a couple of performances were off-putting. Meanwhile, I watched the pilot of The Orville and thought it sucked.

They're neck-and-neck so far!

The Orville is awesome, and given the numbers I am sure CBS is hoping Discovery does as well.
The thing is: For Discovery to do well, it has to entice people to sign up and subscribe for CBSAA. The TV ratings (whatever they are in the end) in sure will be used to measure just how successful ST: D was in that regard over the run of the first season on CBSAA.

I'd like to know what "performances" you speak of, since all we've seen are a few WORDS per character.

I'll repeat what I said previously. Let Discovery air on TV otherwise i'll just watch Orville (which has turned out okay). I don't want to pay for CBS's stupid streaming service.
