Discovery and "The Orville" Comparisons

Discovery looks pretty exciting to me.
Exciting can be fun, too.
After two episodes, I find the Orville to be fully "meh". It has good possibilities but doesn't do much with those possibilities; hopefully it will start doing more with what it has.
I watch it, and find it mildly entertaining, but the best thing I can say about it is "it doesn't suck", which I suppose is something.

I found the 2nd Ep better than the 1st by a massive margin. But its kinda just Meh all in all.
The Orville is a cheeseburger from a chain restaurant. Discovery is (likely) a great steak dinner from a chophouse.
I like and will eat both...but there's really no comparison. They both serve entirely different purposes and are appropriate/enjoyable for entirely different reasons.

as long as you dont look at it as a comedy, The Orville is actually preety decent a watch, though I am still looking forward to DSC more.
After seeing two episodes (and liking them so I'll keep watching); the show isn't out to parody Star Trek. It's an honest to goodness situation comedy (meaning they'll have serious parts in it too) that's mostly inspired by the original Star Trek (TOS) when it comes to the characters - but it set design and overall look, is more inspired by TNG.
Given that, I do think TNG fans will be annoyed by the characterizations because they're definitely flawed people who will argue and bicker; and there won't be the "Everyone pretty much thinks the same way' aspect that was so prevalent for the Starfleet Bridge officers on TNG. The fact the characters on the show are more TOS inspired is a BIG plus for me.

Can't compare if you haven't seen both. The steak may be undercooked, I dunno. But the cheeseburger--Sacre Bleu!

Discovery is exactly a McDonald's burger. Billions and Billions served. If you like your Big Mac you know what you're expecting and it better be that.
Orville is a diner burger - truthfully, if you don't know the place you're taking a chance, but those of us who like diners would rather give it a go than eat one more time at MickeyD's.
Anyone who wants great steak should really not be at either place.
I've seen nothing yet that proves to me that Discovery is breaking away from the 90's McTrek mold.

I find orville entertaining but nothing more. Maybe future episodes will change my mind.
