Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a ST film (kind of)

In a recent interview Quentin Tarantino made mention of what type of Star Trek film he would like to make/see...Tarantino’s idea is to “expand some of the great, classic episodes and just easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some really amazing, amazing stuff”

Tarantino specifically mentions "City on the Edge of Forever" as an episode that would make a great movie. It's one of the great Trek classics”

I for one would LOVE to see Quentin Tarantino’s take on Star Trek and his idea of expanding City on the Edge of Forever could be spectacular...Imagine a world class director taking on that story with modern f/x.

If I were in charge of Paramount I would be on the phone with him the second I saw this article.

Absolutely I would. I smiled when I heard this news a few days ago.

 

I too got the impression he's talking about a reboot sequel (he mentions how he'd see the reboot being developed) but if not, then I guess his comment makes a bit more sense

Quentin Tarantino admits to really liking the original J.J. Abrams Star Trek but say the sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness didn't work for him nearly as well because he felt that changing Original Series characters like Khan from Ricardo Montalban to Benedict Cumberbatch (whose name Tarantino seemingly never gets right) was wrong. He would have preferred to see the new timeline progress closer to the original one, and he sees the reboot as an opportunity to expand on those old stories, rather than change them.

The director specifically mentions "City on the Edge of Forever" as an episode that would make a great movie. ​

so he'd basically make a trek movie where ( aside from seeing a lot of blood of different colors, I guess) we'd see no ship, no crew, just more the Kirk's show, more time travel, and more nostalgia where everything is just copying tos episodes. Great.

I mean, I'm glad he prefers trek over star wars.. though it's not a competition and they are different..in fact, one could argue that having a crew and an ensemble instead of a 'solo' movie is one of the main differences between trek and star wars.
I'd find it lame to ignore the ensemble only because one can't handle one, apparently. In the reboot the issue, for me, is that it isn't a honest ensemble enough.
Maybe he should challenge his skills a bit? Not with trek though.
He doesn't seem to get the point of the reboot anyway.

I'd find him ill suited for trek, especially for the reboot.
But even in terms of general trek movies, making adaptations of old episodes without even "changing them" a bit doesn't sound like a groundbreaking idea. It's unimaginative and unoriginal. If people want to watch tos, they watch tos.

 

I didn’t get the impression that he would recast at all. The way I read it was it would be with the current cast in the universe that J.J. Abrams created.

I think a big screen adaptation of City on the Edge of Forever with a director of the caliber of Tarantino could be tremendous. That story deserves to be retold in a modern way by an extraordinary director. I’m not kidding when I said I would have been on the phone with QT the second I heard he had interest (no matter how vague his comment may have been) in making a ST movie if I were running Paramount.

 

I'd love it if he made a Pulp-fiction style Trek movie, just using a treknobabble temporal anomaly to explain why the movie is non-linear.

 

One problem with using the Guardian is, you would also have Harlan Ellison and his lawyer threatening to sue for using it (and I'm surprised Ellison hasn't started proceedings now for Tarantino even mentioning it in an interview!)

 

A Pulp Fiction Trek movie with the Kelvin cast would be amazing.

 

I too read it as reboot sequel

He noted The City on the Edge of Forever would be great, BUT wouldn't give rest of cast much to do so said it would more difficult

He also mentioned Yesterday's Enterprise as a great story/movie potential too

I would be pretty interested in him directing and helping to write a script, just don't want to see Kirk tell an alien that his phaser is the one that says bad mother blank blank blank on it LOL

 

What no one seems to mention is that in this trek that kind of time travel is outdated.
If they went in the past of this reality and changed something, they'd just create another reality.

 

QTs Yesterdays Enterprise - the JJcrew encountering the TNG/Ent E in the 24th century. With SLJ as a Klingon warlord, Kurt Russell as a Starfleet Admiral, Christoph Waltz as a crazed Captain, Uma Thurman as Borg Queen 2.0.. and Shatner as future Kirk somehow (instead of Guinan),

I will say bring him on. would like to see him direct a trek film, trek could use a high powered director.

It's funny that media outlets are picking up on it just now for some reason.

 

Yeah, I had a sense of deja vu when relistening to the excerpt. That said, I think it's a solid idea for a Trek film. Especially "Yesterday's Enterprise".

 

Gender-swap Uhura so that Mr Jackson could play the role:
"Open your own m***********g hailing frequencies!"

 

"Yesterday's Enterprise" is what Star Trek Generations should've been. Unlikely to ever happen, but I'd take that story and make it about the JJ Abrams crew encountering the 2001-05 Enterprise cast thrown forward from the [still to be depicted] Romulan War. Retcon the creation of this alternate timeline to an earlier point in the 2150s, with two possible ways Archer's NX-01 might've met its fate. Surviving to be in a museum and faulty holodeck recreation of "These are the Voyages...." for the Prime Universe or something more disastrous to Federation history in the Kelvin universe.
