David Mack is GUSHING about it...this should settle it

They have not had a gendar swap universe yet...

I do t know....Nemesis involved a bald tit that was allegedly Picard, and Troi getting mentally violated which is usually Rikers job....though that's pretty even stevens, they probably alternate who is going to be violated and put it in the schedule when they have all those padds in Ten Forward...and Tomalak seemed to have been replaced by Girl Romulan Admiral (actually I liked that character, but for humour purposes..) ...are we sure it wasn't some kind of parallel universe gender swap episode?
(I think only Red Dwarf has ever done the gender swapped universe thing hasn't it? )

Fungal space sounds original, although we've had fluidic space. I mean, it sounds original, but whether it's a particularly good idea is another matter.

From https://trekmovie.com/2017/09/12/st...-about-capt-lorca-and-the-uss-discovery-crew/:

Stamets studies Prototaxites stellaviatorae – a species made up of exotic matter found not only in our dimension, but also in a discrete subspace domain known as the ‘mycelial network.’ These subspace ‘shrooms are used in engineering for a mysterious new method of space travel. They are also somehow pivotal to the war with the Klingons.

...
What the actual fuck? That is colossally stupid.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I am extremely disappointed with the tone of this thread.

I am fighting the feeling to go all "Leave David Alone! You're lucky he even writes licensed Star Trek fiction for you people."

Yes. We're lucky he writes fiction that CBS charges ten dollars a pop for.

What tone?

How does, "I'd like to decide for myself whether I like the show, thank you very much," malign David Mack?

1: most of the Nay-Sayers have been attacking this show because they think it will be a reboot or ignore canon. Mack can tell you different, and I believe him as he has to know canon like the back of his hand.

I bolded the key phrase.

You are placing your belief in an authority figure you designate as a tastemaker and expect us all to follow suit.

Sorry to say that even if he seems like "one of us" that taste is still subjective.

For instance, I still can't reconcile the way Leonard Nimoy embraced the Kelvin-verse. I have to imagine part of his blessing came from the flattery of him being given cameos. I mean, he knows the Spock character better than anyone. Did he really think Spock's portrayal in Into Darkness with the cringe-inducing "Khaaaan!" and the beat-down was true to Spock's character?

Likewise, I wonder how much actual influence Meyer has on Discovery as I fail to see his fingerprints in what I've seen so far. And Meyer is the one who was quite critical of how the Kelvinverse seemed to change the shape of the vessel that holds the Trek essense, so to speak.

So there are cases of people whom I personally would be inclined to trust as an arbiter of whether something is or isn't "true Trek" who seem to sort of contradict themselves.

It could be something that could be fun, but Discovery doesn't seem to be wired that way. So it'll be super serious.
The show has Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd.
The use of both the actor and the character connotes to me that the show could include fun aspects.
