Thoughts on Discovery Starfleet Uniforms (Trailer Edition)

Sorry it's just not a good look and probably not to versatile for military duty. The new Star Trek movies did a better job with the uniforms...
It's a TV show. I'm sure most of the costumes used as Starfleet uniforms wouldn't pass muster as fit for real world military duty. Miniskirts, anyone?

I think they will keep the bridge layout the same, but update the computers and such.

The Discovery's bridge has a similar layout to the TOS Connie bridge already

I would expect that the displays and consoles would be "upgraded" graphically, unless they filmed it in Trikonderoga on the TOS bridge.

Yeah I know. As much as I liked the miniskirts because they look great on the female figure, they always did look out of place in TOS. But those tight pants...

Where exactly is this "tightness" that has you in a tizzy?

The guy in the Middle is unobstructed and gives the best view of what I'm talking about. Those shoes are really bad as well.
Which is what exactly? I'm seeing all sorts of wrinkles and creases. While they're not baggy in any way they're not exactly skintight either.

Make no mistake, I'm not a fan of these uniforms, but tightness in the pants isn't a reason.

For anyone with Star trek online on PC, the Discovery Uniforms are available for free in the C-Store promotions tab until october 6th.

They include a new detail we've not been shown yet AFAIK, an Admiral's badge, far right

Not a fan of these unis at all. These don't seem star treky could be any random scifi show, IMO

They do not have to use 60s style or exact department colors. The Kelvin unis were solid and different than TOS or Cage eras yet felt like Star Trek when you saw them

The new Star Trek movies also have quite tight trousers...
yeah star trek into darkness took the justin bieber skinny jeans too far, thankfully beyond gave them just regular fitting pants.

i find the cut of the uniforms weirder than the tightness. the way the bling (for want of a better term) of the tunic is reflected in the trousers, like they're jumpsuits cut in half. it looks good on the women because women have a figure, but looks misaligned on the men because men's bodies are less shapely, not to get too anatomical about it. the tunics also look a little short on the guys. not to mention the asymmetrical zipper that's at such a subtle angle, it looks like it's intended to be straight but just accidentally being worn askew.

the jumpsuit version corrects some of these issues and looks much better to me, plus the bling is toned down. but really, if discovery gets a second season i hope they evolve the uniforms a little closer to TOS and pull back all the metallic detailing.

I expect the evolution will bring the bling over the full tunic - to reflect the full colour tunics - and then mute the bling to the pastel colours that Fuller reportedly intended. Or, as some have suggested - the undershirts are closer to the original uniforms and the jackets are simply abandoned over the course of the show, with the exception of the Captain or something.
