Is it time for a movie about Gene Roddenberry?

I think it's a moot point. Astaire didn't have enough scandal in his life, so a movie about him just wouldn't sell these days. :guffaw:

Kor

I seem to remember Ebert chiding him over being in GHOST STORY but that's as far as it went

I did like the dramatizations done in the Smithsonian Channel's episode of The Real Story. They did one on Star Trek, and they had people as Roddenberry, Herb Solow and some other people.

The casting wasn't bad for the flashbacks, and it really had my interest if they did it like BBC did An Adventure in Time and Space.

I have a feeling that if this were to ever happen, someone from Gene's estate would tell the developers that Gene would get a co-creator credit for the project.

They would completely focus on his womanizing. And I for one am not interested in seeing that.

I am. I'm not interested in seeing the Saint Gene myth as a film for two reasons. One, it's just that. A myth. Two, it's not very interesting. Gene Rodenberry had some good ideas, but quite frankly it was dumb luck that Trek became successful (eventually). Really in spite of him.

I'd rather see the story of a basically good, but deeply flawed man who had demons and liked to bang alot of chicks.

So would I, and I think that any future biopic of Roddenberry will have to incorporate what Joel Engel wrote in his book Gene Roddenberry: The Man & The Myth Behind Star Trek, as well as anything from the book written about how Roddenberry handled City On The Edge Of Forever. Believing in the Saint Gene myth would be unrealistic to an audience that can find out about the more salacious and unsavory aspects of Roddenberry's life online.

bah, just watch "Roddenberry on Patrol"." (...A Star Trek!" -lol)

I saw that awhile back. It was a interesting idea. Felt like a fan film more than anything but not that bad. I was hoping for something more. Use to my dream choice to play Roddenberry was Kevin Spacey. Not know for clear reasons. Now I am thinking the actor who plays the Sheriff on "Stranger Days."

How many PERVERTS do they have in Star Trek??? They should get the guy that played Roddenberry in that fan film. Screw a 'big name" - That is just BEGGING for TROUBLE. Give someone who is young a chance.
